I previously worked for Audi and when the A3 E-tron came about we would actively discourage anyone who wasn't using the car properly, or thinking their MPG would increase, that's not what the car is designed for.
This is designed for someone who lives between 0-30 miles from work, can drive there on pure electric, plug it in a domestic socket to charge it, and drive home on pure electric, meaning its cost you the price of the electricity, the 1.4 petrol should only really be used for journeys outwith your commute/typical journey, that's where this car really re-coups its costs, or with the Audi anyway as it was £5k more than a normal A3 before the government funding.
No offence, but whoever sold you the car should have explained these points to you, even if you get 2/3's of your commute there and back on electric this car will save you a hell of a lot of money!
