Jay's ED30
« on: July 13, 2015, 01:09:56 pm »
So here it is, my very first Volkswagen. Ive been a bit of a Ford man for the last 10 years with a slight detour into the Jap scrap with Civic Type R GT which I hated.... I got bored of waiting for Vtec to kick in!

That hatred resulted in me buying the Edition 30. 2 weeks into ownership and I love it, hands down the best car ive ever bought!! Needs a few little bits tidying up but over time it will all get done with a few modifications along the way.

Anyway... Pictures!

Very nice mate!
They do drive well though from my short experience with mine seem to have quite a few niggles.
Out of interest what's the mileage?

This one does have a coulple of small issues, one of the bolts that holds the air con pipes into the condenser has snapped so I need to get that sorted. The DSG also had a bit of a moment the other day but a friend of mine who is a VW technician assures me a service will cure most issues... so fingers crossed!

Mileage is 77k, average for its age.

I did yeah, it flashed up. I stopped the car. Locked/unlocked and all was well in the world again.

The fault code was 19143 - Unexpected / Implausible Mechanical Gear Disengagement

Has the car had any sort of DSG service ??

It had its last DSG service at 26k so its overdue its next one.

A friend of mine is a VW technician and he's had a look at the car and suspects my DSG fault might be the fact it needs a new mechatronic unit or a simple software update and service.

Being as the car has 3 months warranty from the dealer I bought it off its going into my local VW garage on Thursday for a full diagnosis and if there is anything major that needs fixing i'l be making the most of that warranty.

Handy to know, its real pain because its such a great car and I just really don't need the hassle of having to get this sorted through the dealer. Just want to enjoy owning and driving it!

Car is booked in for a full diagnostic at VW leicester, hoping nothing will show up but i'l get a full report of any defects to show the warranty company and all being well i'l be on my way to getting the car sorted.

Never had any experience with VW aftersales care so its another venture into the unknown for me.

You reckon?? My first 4 weeks of ownership have been less than smooth

Car was in at VW Leicester yesterday for diagnosis on its gearbox issue and it was confirmed it needs a new mechatronic unit, its currently still with the dealer and they are handling the warranty claim on my behalf which is handy. Just hoping it all goes through smoothly and work is carried out. I sure as hell dont want to get stuck with the £2500 cost for the new unit!!

Well it went pretty badly, Warranty wise refused the claim, there reason..

1) Mechatronic Unit
However we are of the opinion as your repairer has stated that the vehicle is slightly jurking in gear. that the requested parts
have not suffered a sudden and unexpected mechanical or electrical breakdown as defined in your warranty booklet but is
suffering from wear and tear. Unfortunately parts which have not suffered a sudden failure as defined and parts which are
suffering from wear and tear within the first 30 days or 1000 miles are specifically excluded.

P****d off is not the word. Ive spoken to the dealer I bought it from and they are going to get in touch with Warranty wise to try and find out whats going on. Its of Volkswagens opinion that the unit has failed and needs replacing so they are also going to dispute with warranty wise.... All in all yesterday was a pretty crap day.

Hoping I can get it sorted, I know recon units are available so that might well be my next step.

vehicle is on 77k, FSH, and DSG service is due. Tempted to just have that done and see if that eases the problem at all. The car drives fine, its just a bit jurky sometimes when pulling away or slowing down when changing into first, eg coming up to a junction/traffic lights.

Warranty Wise are reviewing the claim today after VW explained that the mechatronic unit is not a wear and tear item. Hopefully they will authorise the work and all will be well with the world again.

DSG service is the first job on the list once I get the car back
