Hesitation/ lumpy running
« on: July 16, 2015, 05:06:41 am »
Hi guys, I'm after a bit of advice for a really annoying problem my ed30 has developed recently.. A bit of background info on the car; Its just coming up to 99k miles with a full VW main dealer/ my local VAG specialist history, no previous issues, running a bluefin stage1 map for the last 50k miles with VWR air filter and forge diverter valve.
So the issue its got is that it just wont cruise properly with the throttle in a steady state, it feels like you're constantly on and off the throttle (really lumpy). When you put your foot down it will go and deliver pretty much full power, but it hesitates before it does it..
My initial thoughts were fuel starvation, so I changed the fuel filter. That made no difference. Next on the trouble shooting list was the low pressure fuel pump in the tank because it was noisey anyway and seemed like the main culprit. Thats made no difference either...
Has anyone had similar issues or know of what it could be? The ECU isnt showing any fault codes currently, so its not giving much away!! Cheers chaps.

Forgot to mention.. The cam follower was replaced about 10k miles ago with minimal wear shown.

It's pretty much established on here that the Bluefin software for these cars is crap.

Couple that with the Forge dv (another questionable 'upgrade') and you might well end up with the lumpy delivery you describe.

If you can, try an oem diaphram valve like the revision G, on a stock map. I bet things get smoother.

Hello mrwicks

This could be a long shot but have you changed your coil packs or had them done on recall?

I've got a 55 plate gti with 90k miles and mine developed the same symptoms last month and last week it broke down and still showed no fault codes. I was sure it was a coil pack issue but I confirmed it with my mechanic before I ordered replacements as my car showed no recall actions so I assumed it had already had it done. On Tuesday my r8 coil packs arrived and now my car is perfect again with no hesitation, no loss of power and best of all smooth idle

After a bit more research I've decided to change the diverter valve (don't think its ever been done on the car?... it was fine when i checked it about 20k miles ago though?) Fingers crossed this helps it, otherwise i'll give the coil packs a go. Its a bit sort of trial and error, but at least they're not the most expensive parts in the world nor do they take much effort in changing them out. Fingers crossed it works now cause its bloody annoying on a 30 mile commute to work!!

Diverter valve
PCV
Coil pack (pretty sure EML would be on if at fault)
Injector (Same as above)
Inlet valves could do with a clean at that mileage

There just a short list of the things I'd start with
59 red mk6 GTi 5dr
57 mk5 1.9 TDi match
22 a3 s-line competition 45 tfsiE
09 Suzuki GSXR 1000 (road going track sl*g)
