Which tyre to use?
« on: July 18, 2015, 04:50:55 pm »
Hi folks
My GTI is currently running on a set of Kumho tyres because that's which it came on but I do find they seem to transmit a lot of road noise through the car.
I wondering what tyres you guts run on your cars & what you would recommend.
I was thinks of Goodyear efficient grip or Michelin?

A round one generally works.

Everything depends on budgets etc.
I don't care about noise, I care about grip, so I go for the best rubber I can find.
If you want a quiet tyre you may have to sacrifice other things.

Look on tyre reviews as all our suggestions are subjective. I have eagle f1 assy 2 and rate them.

I've ran Bridgestone Potenzas, Goodyear F1s and now on Michelin Super Sports. Found the F1s sidewalls too soft.
The Supersports are by far the best.

Supersports are good and give lots of mid corner grip and more feel than F1s

Would have to agree with the 'steering feel' improving too. Coupled with the TT bushes I had fitted, the car feels much better.

Have a edition 30 stage 2+ just had 4 Michelin pilot sport 3 tyres fitted from Costco.
They are miles better than the f1's or re050 potenzas.
Loads of grip and looks the business.
£332 for all four fitted with nitrogen.

Just to add into the mix, I had some Bridgestone Potenza S001 fitted back end of last year and they have transformed the car. So much more grip than the Falkens I had previously. Wear wise is looking pretty good too after about 6k miles......

I have been impressed with Conti-Extreme Contact DW. I switched from Sumitomo HTR ZIII's and initially thought I wouldn't notice much of a difference, but I clearly did. I have taken the Conti's up to, and more importantly, beyond what I was able to push the Sumi's to and was able to go to my own limits with a feeling of confidence that the Conti's limits are still a mystery to me.
So I am saying...a better tire is definitely worth finding.  :drinking:
BFGoodrich g-force Rivals, Bridgestone Potenza RE-11A, and Michelin Supersports are others you cannot go wrong with.

Take a look at compiled customer's reviews:

On the specific tire pages...look for "Read the Full Test Report" for professional test comparison results. Below is what you will look for:
