Something I've always wondered - just how fast was a (standard?) Escort Cossie? I lusted over those as a teenager. Seriously, I would have shagged one given the chance.
Are we talking noticably quicker than a mk5 gti? (as a logical benchmark).

I've never driven one either, but I'd bet they were lighter with the same or a bit more power than the standard GTI K03... still I doubt there would be a lot of difference between the two tbh.

Didn't they do a Top Gear (of old) special where they compared old HotHatches to new ones, namely the ECossie and Focus RS (the 2.0T one) of 2003 ish.

220bhp iirc but 4wd don't forget. Standard Golf GTI fast in a straight line I would say. Mine was a standard Monte Carlo edition with 30k miles and the laggy T34 turbo.

They went to T25 and made the whale tail an extra option if I remember correctly?

I'm sure I've seen a mk2 valver up against a mk5 GTI on some show, was either Top Gear or on ch5.

To be fair I probably should be more than happy with a 200bhp VW years after my fruitless teenage Cosworth obsession...!
