F24 underbonnet fuse and battery drain
« on: July 20, 2015, 07:15:47 pm »
As some may of read from my previous posts that ive been having battery drain issue, so ive done a battery drain amp test, and found that f24 fuse is the culprit of my drain. Does anyone know what the fuse is for? I did a quick search and come across something to do with the fans?? Can anyone point me in the right  direction here please

These types of faults should start "Once Upon a Time" they can be very difficult to explain never mind repair - they require a good understanding of electrical testing and the vehicles can-bus system.

Basically after you shut the vehicle down it progressively goes to sleep and the current draw is reduced to approximately 50 milliamperes when it's asleep - this happens over a 30 to 45 minute time cycle.

The can-bus is used to talk to all the vehicles system for shut down and every other operation when running and standby etc.
So removing that fuse will cause every type of issue possible but it's not common for a can-bus gateway to be faulty.

Thanks for the info, would you start with getting a new canbus gateway?

No - like I said this type of fault requires a lot of testing and not fault finding by substitution.

See how far your away from Eddie-NL here's very experienced at this type of problem - my last choice would be the dealer in matters of current draw!

Read this post and if you understand it you can fix your fault http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/f15/battery-standby-current-45673.html

I've found very few auto electricians who understand or are willing to spend the time to trace faults off this nature - see if anyone can recommend someone local too you who has proven ability on the product - if you want a result at a very fair price travel to see Ed is my opinion.

It could but again it's down to understanding and testing most likely you'll spend money you don't need too.
