@david25 How did you get 404 miles out of tank? Best I have done is 370 miles and I was bored stiff!!
 
I tried getting the best mileage I could when I first got the GTI, then got bored and was much happier with my 31 mpg on motorways at 90 I mean 70

I'm currently at about 280 miles with about a third of my tank left... I'm not sure if I'll use my GTI much since it's for sale, but if I do, I accept your challenge.

LOL The point of this thread was to help out guys that are in a similar position to me before i bought my gti.
I am 41 with 3 kids and have had loads of high performance diesels.
I wanted something quick but didn't want to buy a golf gti then find out i was going to get
spanked on the mpg. I debated getting the 170 tdi.
But in the end i plumpted for the golf gti. and 3 months on i know it was the right decision.

If u are having a bad pay week u can take it easy and save the fuel. If your having
a good week u can give it the nuts.

I know this will be an alien concept to some younger drivers with more free cash.

I did 400 miles and still had just under 1/4 tank in my old K03 GTI. Cheshire to Scottish highlands, mild weather, very steady driving. Just over 40mpg 

My Ed30 managed a flukey 46.7mpg on 95RON over 25 miles 2nd day of ownership

On a serious note I have a 2008 Gti and wife has a 2008 Gt tdi so best of both worlds for us fortunately

Haha yeah quite a decline majority of the journey
Usually struggle to see 28mpg on the commute home amongst the rush hour rat race 

Do quite often see 40mpg on decent motorway runs if kept at 80mph or less (430 miles on a tank)
