Jaguar XFR
« on: July 27, 2015, 11:24:56 am »
Anyone got any experience of these?

Looking at the usual suspects to replace the ED30 with, budget £20k tops.

So B7 RS4 avant, E90 M3 saloon, 335i touring, Lexus IS-F, B8 S4 avant and then this popped into my thoughts.

A £60-65k car for £20k. Will eat rear tyres and brakes but you are looking at over 500 horses before you consider the Tom Lenthall modding package

I think have ruled the Lexus out now as reckon the Jag will be better. Problem with the S4 is I only like the facelift ones circa 12 plate so cant get one for £20k. Am a bit put off the RS4 because of its age and possible not making power and the M3 looks great but boot is smaller than the Jag and the Jag is an M5 rival not M3, a step up in real terms.

Why do you want to replace the ED30 ?

I had the same dilemma and couldn't find a proper replacement so bought a Landrover !

I would make your budget a little higher and buy Hurdys MK6 R

Need something bigger, i am over 6 4 and my two boys look like they are going to be tall so priorities are rear leg room and boot space for family holidays hence initial look at RS4 avant and S4 avant. However, the Jag has a 500 litre boot so should be ok!

In terms of my needs I want the new car to be quicker than a well sorted Stg 2+ ED30; with a Stage 1 map so S3 saloon and Golf R estate would be ideal as lower than all the others on tax, fuel, consumables, insurance but the S3 saloon wont be 20k for 3 years and the Golf R estate only makes its debut on a 65 plate and I refuse to go higher than 20k as this will be the first car I have ever bought that have not been able to pay outright cash for it.

Audi B7 won't give you any more leg room or boot space than the GTI, so I think you'll need to look elsewhere - what about a Skoda VRS estate? may not be quick enough, but should give you some size gains

Andy haven't you been doing these threads for about 3 years...

...So much so, that I actually thought to myself "he's already got a B7 RS4, why's he going for a another V8?..."

Ha ha yes I have. I moved house in Feb and spent all my money on the house so have been stripping back the ED30 bit by bit but had to put the new car on the backburner. So in that time other contenders  have cropped up Pete.

The Lexus has a small ish boot apparently. The Jag looks the biggest car but also the most expensive to run although the big depreciation has been taken out already with 2/3 of its value gone.

the boot in the avant must be bigger. But I hear what you say re leg room prob wont be any or any noticeable upgrade

Heart says it is the sensible upgrade from the Stg 2+ Eddie but.... I dont like the pre facelift ones at all B8.5 Black Edition TDI's look better!

So needs to be a 62/13 plate I think and they are a lot of money still really when you see what V8's can be had for over £5000 cheaper.

I do keep watching the monkeymans video on youtube though against the RS4 once its been Revo'd

B7 RS4 is pretty underwhelming.
Most dyno at around 370ish, nowhere near the claimed 425ish.
I've kept up (just, but nevertheless) with an RS4 , in a diesel , tells you all you need to.

S4 B8 is a very capable car, but boring and feels planted. you're limited with upgrades as well, no uprated bush kits available (well, a few, but very expensive and full metal).

Lexus IS-F would be my fave, they look mean and are different, if not then I'd go for a 5 door M3 e90 in white or blue.

yeah the Lexus is good value but small boot apparently and the 8 speed box a bit annoying. at the end of the day the E90 M3 is probably a better car so only the exclusivity of the Lexus going for it.

Re B8 S4 am sure Alex must know of some good mods for it

Just to give you an alternative suggestion, the EA888 2.0T engine in the A4 makes over 300bhp with a stage 1 remap. May be worth looking at?

Similarly an S4 will give you the performance on an RS4 with a remap so you could rule out the B7 RS4.

Cheers Sub, yeah if I stay VAG I think will have to be an S4, shame the S3 saloon not been out a bit longer as boot space better than the sportback

Same height as me, and im also looking at interior space in the next car.

An RS4/S4 with the front seat in my driving position, leaves no rear space at all  :fighting:

Damn my long legs!!!!
