Mk6 or Mk4 boot badge replacement?
« on: July 29, 2015, 02:46:01 pm »
I've got the dreaded white worm on my rear boot badge (2005 so soft close?)

I've seen people replace the existing badge with those from mk6 and mk4, which is best?

Interested in opinions on this also.. Same scenario, 2005 soft close with white worm. I removed the badge which is held on primarily with just sticky foam.

I can tell you that the part  5K0 853 601 B ULM / 5K0 853 630 B ULM.....  Does NOT fit, so don't go for that option

That's my mk6 replacement. In my opinion looks better than the mk 5 and although I did prefer the slow close, it really doesn't matter to me. I bought mine second hand for about 40£ but I've send them for cheaper. The swap over is simple enough, the only challenging bits are removing the boot interior plastic trim without marking/damaging anything and getting the cable to reach the mk6 releAse. I found slack in the cable further back so pulled that through slowly and had enough to stretch the cable, but it is very tight and be chair full doing it. But it's pretty simple.

Is it just me or does the MK6 badge look like it sticks too far out?  :signLOL:

On the earlier mk5 golfs the boot badge does sit differently to the later models. I have an 05 with a mk6 badge and as you say it protrudes further, but think for later ie 06 the metal from the boot protrudes more so badge fits better
