RNS-315 and MSFW not working
« on: July 29, 2015, 09:36:32 pm »
Hi everyone,

I've recently purchased an Edition30 for my fiancĂ©e.  It is 56 plate with DSG and the previous owner had the RNS-315 Sat Nav / BT / DAB fitted.  The only thing that was really missing was the MFSW, so bought the buttons and installed them.  I have coded the steering wheel in VAGCOM so it knows the buttons exist and the buttons on the right hand side of the steering are working and controlling the MFD+ as expected, but the buttons on the left hand side of the steering wheel are not working.  I've looked under the Navigation in VAGCOM but nothing obvious to make it recognise it.

Any ideas as to what I'm missing?

Still struggling with this, been doing some more research and appears to be down to the RNS315 unit only taking BAP but my MFD+ only talks DDP

I'm not too fussed about the full cluster integration (nav, etc) but i'd really like to get the buttons to work so volume and answering phone

I'm guessing this requires a cluster change?

Hummmm,

I have read that it might be possible if using the mk6 steering wheel controller (CH I think it is) - would that mean using mk6 buttons too?

Update: FYI It is said (or "Some say..." for my Top Gear fans) that if you purchase and install an RNS-315 on a car with a RED MFA and an MK5 (or old style) MFSW, that you will lose steering wheel audio controls (volume, etc.). They also say you will lose the ability to display Audio, Bluetooth and Nav info in the MFA. I can confirm you lose info displayed in MFA. However, when I installed my RNS-315 (which I purchased WELL after I did this swap), I was excited when I realized my steering controls worked perfectly as regards the radio. I am assuming that is because the MK6 style steering wheels use the new communication method. So when I swap out my cluster for the New R-Line cluster with color MFA the remaining button (menu left) on the SW will work and I will have full radio MFD display.
