Newbie needing some help...
« on: July 29, 2015, 11:34:25 pm »
Hi everyone ,

Was hoping some of you might be able to shed some light on a couple of silly questions I've got about fitting an RNS 510 to my 2005 MK5 GTI and just wanted to check that I've got the correct info to do it properly

Found a guide online albeit for a MK6 GTI of how to fit the RNS510 unit (please see link below):

http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/?topic=152441.0

I was planning on following this as I would imagine its extremely similar to my car and looks pretty straight forward to be fair... correct me if I'm wrong though please.

In addition to this I wanted to fit a 2010 Polo roof aerial (VW Part No: 6R0 035 849) because I think it looks a better and tidier than the standard factory one thats on now.  Does anyone have any experience using this aerial with the RNS 510 or think of any problems it might cause?

Finally, I've seen some people say that the RNS 510 unit causes serious battery draining on the MK5 GTI is this true?  If so does anyone know how to correct this (please try and explain this as if you are talking to a five year old ).

Would appreciate some thoughts/guidance on the above if anyone could!

Matt.

I've got a kenwood so dont know much about the battery drain issue but I'm sure someone else will be able to point you in the right direction

You'll need a new canbus gateway for your car to stop the battery drain ! @Eddie_NL can sort you out with one I think which will be plug and play ! I'm not sure about the aerial tho

I followed this

You will also need one of these

Polo aerial will work fine.  (All assuming we are not talking DAB here)
