Key cutting
« on: July 04, 2015, 12:11:22 pm »
Just had my key cut a local Key cutting place and it didn't work. It wouldn't turn the ignition nor lock/unlock door. The guy seemed quite surprised. Are the blades are hard to do???

Called vw and they don't even cut them????

I got a refund anyhow. Do timpsons cut car keys??

They do, just not at the dealers.   The process at VW is you walk into a dealer, hand them your V5 document and driver's license, give them 200ish quid and then a couple of days later the key turns up ready cut and programmed to your car.   Not cheap!

They told me they can order me the key but I must get it cut locally ie at timpsons.

Gotta love the inconsistency of the dealer network.  The lock profiles are stored centrally at VW HQ for every chassis number.  That's where they are cut.  The local dealer then does the programming on site.

Yeah you can add a new alarm plipper to the car yourself easily, but the immobiliser bit is the tricky part.  Can Timpsons do that bit?

Timpsons cut key blade. I match transponder to immobiliser and matched the remote all via vcds.

Yeah my full closure hasn't worked either since I upgraded to a newer CAN gateway (RNS510 battery drain).  I think I need to 'relearn' it or something!

Good to know you can do all that with VCDS, cheers!
