Service coming up
« on: August 09, 2015, 09:42:19 pm »
Hi Chaps,

I have about 67k on my ED30 DSG and is due for a Service.

Now at 61k I have a repair sheet that advises the Water Pump, antifreeze and fan belt were replaced so I am presuming this covers the big 60k service where people mention changing the water pump, timing chain/belt etc.

The other big thing I presume is the DSG, so what would be needed for this presuming nothing has been done before which I dont think it has

Make sure you're not getting your belts mixed up.  Generally a 'fan belt' is the auxiliary belt which runs the waterpump, AC pump etc - its the belt you can see with the bonnet up.
The timing belt / cam belt is called a toothed belt by VW, and may need changing on yours depending on if the 'fan belt' turns out to be the toothed / cam belt or auxiliary belt.

I was going to say this, shouldn't be due yet. Do you have evidence of it being done previously?
Do you have a good specialist to do your work?

Gone but not forgotten :-)

All I have is the Service Book which shows it has been reguarly service every year but nothing to detail what was actually done.

Apart from tracking down the dealer is there any other way I could check this

Get it done if you are not sure mate.
Just around £179 iirc and for peace of mind.
Or if they were serviced by the dealers, you can check at the last page of the booklet. Mine was written there at least for both cambelt and DSG services.

So after checking the paperwork in more detail the one about the belt swap etc says

Parts Fitted
 - New Timing belt kit
 - Water Pump
 - Antifreeze
 - Fan Belt

So I am hoping the above covers it all

In terms of the DSG Service, nothing anywhere in the booklet so think I will have to fork out for that. I presume there is no way of checking if it was done at 40k by checking the filter or transmission oil condition?

Yes that should do it for the cambelt, water pump and aux belt.

Dont forget the cam follower too.

If the DSG was service by a dealer it should be recorded on the VW computer network I think.
My timing belt, water pump and DSG is being done today, glad it's only every 4 years as kinda expensive.

I presume when you say recorded on the VW Network that is only if it was Serviced by a VW Dealer and not an Independent

Probably a stupid question but is there any telltale signs of issues I would experience if the DSG Service was not done at 40k.

At the moment it seems to work fine but I mostly drive in D which the only thing I thought was strange was how it changes up so quickly to 6th gear by the time you are at 40mph so when you accelerate it take a second to pump in the power as in such a high gear.

Yes would needed to have been done by an authorised dealer. Other than speaking to previous owner no wayoff telling, expensive service I know but one that needs done and you can feel the difference right away.
