Too much coolant and missing bolt after dealer cambelt change
« on: August 10, 2015, 04:13:14 pm »
I opened my bonnet for the first time since a dealer carried out a cambelt change.

Instantly heard a bolt/nut drop onto the under engine plastic guard.  Spent ages removing the main bit of the plastic, bolt had made its way behind bumper in the corner.  Fished it out, and then figured out it was from the washer fluid bottle - hope that's the only bolt they forgot to tighten!

Also, my coolant level is way over the maximum mark when the engine is cold.

Two minor issues I wouldn't have expected from the dealer.

Nothing would surprise me from a main dealer

I was suprised that they got something as basic as coolant level wrong.

I might give them a call about it.

Yeah definitely take it back and ask them to check it over especially as you have found a bolt

I only took it there as they were the same price as an Indy for the cambelt.

Ive also continued the extended VW warranty the last owner had.

I'd forego the courteousy car and free coffee not to have to scrabble around my driveway looking for a bolt!

I'm going to give them another chance as my service is due in October.

To be fair some of the ones who work at the dealerships are bang on and some well...

I've had a coolant leak for over 6 years. Been pressure tested 3 times at the stealers they couldn't find it...  Had some other work carried out this year at the same place and low and behold the guy identified it (when they do the "create work" check!). Finally sorted!

its down to the person working on your car this happens everywhere if you get someone who doesn't give a rats arse this is what happens because they are dealers don't make them all bad unfortunately some people that work for them are bad which gives them the bad name  :signLOL:

Funny you mention the coolant, I've been using a VAG independent garage for years the bloke you owns it is a vag master technician and is really good the only one thing he seems to do that bugs me is over fill the coolant level !!!?
Done it on my pervious Vrs and recently on the golf !
Why are they doing this ... ?

I'm sure its not a massive problem, but it shows a lack of care.

For a bit of balance - the person who served me was really polite and had a very helpful attitude.  She even gave me a bottle of G13 coolant for free, as she said sometimes there is an airlock and the coolant level can drop.

I guess that's why they overfill, to stop the coolant light coming on and people returning to the dealership.

I've sent them an email explaining, and highlighting that there maybe a training / supervision issue at the dealership.  Might be true as dealer has recently changed ownership.
