James' Black Edition 30
« on: August 10, 2015, 10:53:14 pm »
Hi all

Picked up my 2007 GTI Edition 30 a few weeks back. Really happy with the car and already have the modding bug even though I told myself I wouldn't touch this car!

Specs as bought are:

Completely standard Black 2007 Mk5 Golf GTI Edition 30
1 Previous Owner
61k
Full VWSH
Manual

Current Mods

- REVO Stage 1 Remap
- REVO Intake
- NKG BKR7IEX
- Milltek/VWR Turbo back exhaust with Race Cat
- Wagner Competition Intercooler
- Turbo silencer delete
- Superpro Dog mount insert

Within the first week I went to see Alex @ AKS for a Revo stage 1 remap which transformed the car. Pulled 240g/s with 27deg ambient temps which equates to a nice round 300bhp. Pulls like a train now and completely transformed the car!

Next up came some nice fresh rubber, Michelin PS3's all round.

Not long after I got myself a Revo Intake & Evolution Motorsports turbo heat shield fitted, and I have a non res Milltek turbo back system ready to fit.... then time for Stage 2.... so much for not touching this one!  :signLOL:

Anyway here's some pics of her.

James

Quick update - fitted some Iridium 7's & received my dogbone insert ready to fit.

Also ordered some BG44K fuel system cleaner & have a new set of coilpacks.

Had a fun evening wrestling off the stock exhaust ready to replace it with my Milltek - Unfortunately ran out of time tonight but this is how it stands... hopefully the Milltek goes on easier than this came off!

Managed to get the Milltek fitted and its bloody loud!

Checked the whole system for leaks to no avail.

Turns out its the race backbox with next to no packing! Combined with a non res centre pipe and a downpipe with race cat = TRACTOR :(

Anyone have any experience with this before?

I have 2 options, cut open the backbox and pack it up with rockwool or buy a resonated centre.

Not sure which way to go at the moment. Does anybody want to swap me a resonated centre for my non res? Mine has only covered 1000miles so its as new.

After a bit more research, I have come to the conclusion its the VWR racing system with the smaller backbox. Although its badged up as Milltek, it was purchased from a VWR employee who bought it from work.

Managed to get hold of a resonator from a member on here which should quieten it down.

Seems the VWR system flows a little better with less back pressure due to the smaller, less packed backbox.  So hopefully it will make some good numbers when I finally get her to Stage 2+  :happy2:

Centre resonator fitted now - what an improvement!

Anyway, my Wagner intercooler and turbo silencer delete got delivered today :) Hopefully have some time over the BH to fit and then off to Alex for Stage 2  :happy2:
