Brakes for stage 2+ ??

Hello, I know this has probably been covered to death but I can't really see what I am looking for so here goes.

I have a stage 2+ (ko3) on standard brakes. I am finding that with the additional power the brakes aren't great so I am looking for the a good way/cheap way to uprate them.

I have looked at s3 and r32 set ups but its just too expensive so what would you guys recommend.

I've been thinking the same, been looking into a Porsche set up. There are plenty on eBay and they don't seem too expensive. From what I've seen they will need adapters but might be worth a look into. Maybe somebody will pop up with what model calipers and discs work best. Plus they will look pretty damn smooth when they aren't being used for stopping power  :smiley:

My first thought was S3 / R32. Great setup for the road and that power. Because they'd be standard VAG parts I've found insurance companies are ok with it in that it probably won't attract a premium. If that's out of reach then Ferrodo DS2500 pads, ATE super blue fluid may help you out.  :happy2:

I'm not sure you'll get anything worth having for less than the cost of an S3 setup. If you find something you'll have to be very cautious about how much you'll have to spend to get them fitted (parts & adapters etc), serviceable and not looking too tatty.

The S3 R32 setup is the cheapest upgrade worth doing and it it quite a big difference over the standard brakes, although noticeably heavier but that's why they're so much cheaper than 4pot kits. Brakes are essential so if what you've got isn't good enough you need to try and find the money somewhere.

got a set of 345's here with recent discs and pads for £300

could upgrade to better pads at later date if you decide they aren't enough but they should be plenty for your needs

if not a mate may be selling his 320mm set up using r32 calipers and DTM carriers, they work very well again recent discs and pads £200

whats going to come next? My tyres are bold! Can anyone recommend rock bottom budget tyres, i cant afford decent ones.

Agree Marv, you can buy R32 setups ready to bolt on for £300 these days.

Get your hand in your pocket ffs. R32 brakes are peanuts. (In direct relation to the cost of Stage 2+)

I'm going for TTRS asap, and I'll 'only' be Stage 1 for the forseable. Overkill? No.

Hence why I leave mine completely standard, not because a can't afford mods/upgrades but simply because a can't justify it to drive on uk overcrowded camera ridden roads, the Gti is agreat road car to start with a seriously don't get why people want to build super fast road cars!

I had TTRS setup on a stock CR170 for about 3 weeks hahahaa  :mad: :signLOL:

Improving your brakes is needed even for stock cars, IMHO. But before you get to think about brakes I think it's more important to make sure your tyres are good enough for your needs and that the suspension is working well too. With no good rubber and a bouncy ride, even better brakes won't do miracles.

For road use you can just think about better pads. That will make a good difference and won't be that expensive, compared with a new brake setup.

The best and cheapest are the front brakes from the R32/R20/S3/Cupra, then the brakes from the Porsche Boxter/Cayman 986 with OEM 312 mm discs and Vagbremtechnic carriers, then the TTRS brakes with Vagbremtechnic carriers to use TTS 340 mm discs and then Brembo 17Z or 18Z. Better options are much more expensive, mostly due to using 2-piece discs, AFAIK.
