Hey guys
I notice a few older GTI's I looked at had rust issues with the front arches. Since reading up, I see it's common around the front wing by the sill too.
Did rust remain an issue throughout all build years or was it resolved later on?
If the former, is there anything you can do to prevent the rust from occurring?
Cheers

My understanding is that 2007 onwards the design was changed. The problem lies in the fact that a large foam sound deadening holds water, I believe they rectified this if it goes to VW under warranty

Hi. Thanks for the info. Do you know if you can tell you have the revised change by looking for something?

57 reg 2008 car. 40k miles and I had rust on a sill. Had them both done for piece of mind by a local bodyshop. They also took the sponges out the front arches and pumped them full of wax oil.

Sorry to hear that. Did you try vw first?

Yeah, was told it would be expensive as wasn't having wings done at same time and labour taking everything off would take ages. Was told 50/50 contribution within a day. VWUK said the dealers can charge what they like, which I thought was strange as they were paying 50% supposedly. They wanted £400. Guy who looked at the car was an utter tool so got it done for the same price at a bodyshop I trust.
