Title: Reflex Silver GT TDI
Post by: swebster94 on October 15, 2015, 09:02:08 pm
So in June I bought myself a MK5 GT TDI and have been following this forum ever since. Seeing as I've never posted on the forum I thought now might be a good time to start a thread for my car.
It's a 2005 GT TDI with Mfd2 satnav, climatronic, heated full leather seats and high line cluster.
This is how she was when I first got it, all standard
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fswebster94%2Fgolf_mk5%2F75D3FF94-FC40-490C-969A-22738A6D8457_zps1slalxcp.png&hash=85d88e6e1d2902c262ae2b1be29116944478d1fc)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fswebster94%2Fgolf_mk5%2F04F3EC37-DC21-40A4-BBA1-1F0E0A507D42_zps8vp3myy0.png&hash=35519ba0608bd9e656a9a3e39476125ea97b1b4e)

Since then I've fitted
-Team Heko wind deflectors
-LED sidelights, number plate lights and interior lights all round
-GTI Monza alloys
-MTEC Super white bulbs

I've also given it a clean, clayed it with a meguiars clay bar kit and polished it up
This is how it stands now:

Over December/Christmas I plan to fit an RNS510 to it to replace the standard mfd2 so I will be needing a new CAN Gateway at the same time.
Other plans I have for the car
- Retrofit OEM Xenons
- Fit GT front bumper
- Retrofit TPMS
- Boot pop mod
- Retrofit Bluetooth to RNS510
- Retrofit Underseat drawers
- R32/edition 30 rear lights
- Wrap roof black
- Lower it slightly
- Eventually buy some nicer 18" alloys

I need to replace the rear badge as its suffering from the whiteworm, I've seen the 3D effect ones which id like if anyone has the part number for them

Feel free to post any ideas/feedback

Cheers
Sam

Last weekend she had a good wash, Polish and sealed ready for winter:

So today I picked myself up a bargain through a mate..

I'm not sure if I need to upgrade my can gateway or not to prevent battery drain, im not sure of what revision my can gateway is and I haven't got VCDS to check with.
Not sure if I should just get a gateway just in case so I don't end up with a flat battery? Would have to get a precoded one as I don't have VCDS to program it with, unless anyone around the Stroud/Gloucester area has a lead I can use.

Last week I fitted the RNS and it's such an improvement, adds to the quality of the interior massively! Thanks to Eddie-NL for the pre coded gateway,  :drinking:
Just need a Bluetooth module and loom now for Bluetooth streaming.
Only issue with it is I haven't got the 7digit postcode entry, I think I need to update he firmware and the maps for this don't I?
What's the latest firmware for a version B (381x?) and does anyone here sell it and maps as I don't have a laptop to burn a disc anymore as mine no longer turns on   :stupid:

It's the dodo juice buff daddy version of the DAS-6 machine polisher, just a few more bits to get then I will be giving her a good polish over before winter  :happy2:

It's been a while since I've posted so a few updates from the last few months..

She's had a quick going over with the machine polisher, waiting for spring to come and for it to get warmer so I can spend a full day out detailing it. Really pleased with the results though!

December wasn't the best month though,
A lorry going the other way flicked up a stone and left me with a cracked windscreen down the bottom, it's still only a small crack but I'll get a new screen through insurance soon as it has a few other chips in it anyway:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fswebster94%2Fgolf_mk5%2FF3AF8B77-A933-4531-92D6-5C4AE0F61E33_zpselbdkmh9.jpg&hash=b6eb20c15c2e0fe632153e7e80586f0e4d27dfb8)

Then the alternator belt tensioner gave up so I had to replace the belt and tensioner, at the same time I carried out a full service. Then a week later the alternator freewheeling pulley gave up! Looking into it that was the cause of the tensioner to go so should have done it at the same time. Had to buy myself the special tool to fit the new alternator pulley but wasn't too bad

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fswebster94%2Fgolf_mk5%2F16571002-3756-40D8-AB4A-60B99FE87D92_zps4jpbftnn.jpg&hash=4125a8f3c8ada6de957e5547c0c89f369abec493)

On a positive note, ordered myself some Bi-Xenon replica headlights today, they are actual Bi-Xenons with the shutters so hopefully will be decent quality. Should be here to Tuesday so they will get fitted next week.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fswebster94%2Fgolf_mk5%2FEB76F23A-B7BB-4029-B546-B780A6274A2F_zpsmnd1kmfs.png&hash=e65f96d3ff973f0f281a833ee9b7105100c68dd8)

Cheers for reading! :happy2:

Cheers mate!
The interior is worth making better as its where you spend most of your time lol!
The leather wasn't standard but it was an option the original buyer chose

Gutted, think Im going to have to invest in some leathers and a radio unit upgrade next. Few ideas in motion so one step at a time. Look forward to the next update!

The leathers are nice and comfy so defo worth it I reckon, could always invest in some wingbacks?  :signLOL:
The RNS you can pick up fairly cheap these days too and it just makes the interior such a nice place, need to upgrade the can gateway though or you'll have a dead battery

Got my bixenons all fitted now and the HID kit in.
The light output is amazing and perfectly white, looks far better than before

HID Kit on the left, standard halogen bulb on the right

So pleased with the result, saved money from retrofitting the genuine lights.

This month I've also had to replace NS CV Joint as it was knocking and the OSF lower arm as the front bush was excessively worn. Drives great again now though

Nice to see a non-GTI for a change!
I've recently facelifted my front end with a Jetta bumper and it makes the world of difference.

Good luck!

Look at salvage yards for a bumper, if you're lucky you'll find one that doesn't know what it is. I paid £40 for mine

Front mainly but I'd like to get the rear valance with the exhausts on show, or the GTI Valance with exhausts on show but hen I'd need a new backbox too lol!

Yeah I've been looking but most breakers around me are older car than the mk5's :(

Going to be looking into some eibach springs soon I think, dont want to loose the smooth ride and I can't go too low as there's 3/4 big speed bumps to get to my house  :signLOL: I smashed the cat off my old lupo that was on coilovers trying to get over them

Have you looked into a cup kit?? Doesn't sacrifice much comfort and really improve handling with a subtle drop!

Havent really looked into the cup kit, got any links? I'm looking for a fairly cheap option really  :signLOL:

Anyway few problems with the car this month, so far I've replaced OSF Lower arm, NSF CV Joint, OSF Spring and top mount, been expensive and I've still got a knocking noise from the N/S and a juddering on idle that makes the car vibrate intermittently but the engine idles fine, I think it may be worn top gearbox mount but haven't got round to checking it yet

Thinking about returning the wheels in anthracite next month and maybe tinting the rear lights to look like R32/Ed30's
