Title: Black 05 GTi
Post by: Duck on November 15, 2015, 04:08:43 pm
Hello, recently joined this forum after becoming a mk5 GTi owner. I've been driving VAG cars for the last 15 years working may way through various mk2's, Corrado's etc and a couple of Aircooled too (one of which I still have )

I started the search for a decent GTi a few months ago, ideally a 3dr, red, manual & winter pack if possible. After looking at few absolute pigs a mate put his 05 plate up for sale, I did say that I would never own another black car again after my last Leon cupra purely down to keeping the bloody things clean but this was a nicely sorted car with a few extras already in place (remap, eibach springs & dab head unit) at a really good price.
A few pics after a good clean today

After 2 weeks of ownership I have to say I love it, got a few plans for it but only subtle little changes.

Thanks
Mark

Looks great! Looking for something similar myself to replace my Tdi. Black does look good if well looked after!

Thanks, for a 10 year old car it's very straight. It will be getting the roof repainted after the winter where some bird crap has eaten into the paint. I'm looking to source the lower half of the rear bumper with the tow bar panel, the tow bar is a removable factory one but the cutting out if the bumper is far from neat......

I like the grey as well but unfortunately the back left us kerbed, another job after winter luckily my mate has his own body shop.

Looks a great example dude but then I am biased when it comes to black/anthracite combo...

don't normally like dark paint/wheel combo but they kinda work.

Would it benefit from a polish? My rear quarter was marred from bird poo but I managed to polish it and it looks good as new!

Also, nice colour combo and a very clean car  :happy2:

It's looks to have eaten into the paint and through to the primer unfortunately, easily sorted though.

Not much of an update really other than a good service (inc sump off & pick up pipe change as a precaution) and plenty of driving! Still impressed with the amount of grip these things have, even in the wet.

I've got the code somewhere from the last owner as the paint is beginning to lift in a couple of places so will be getting redone in a few months. Will have a look for you.

Had a 90 1.8 16v, 92 16v a few years ago as daily drivers then recently had a 94 VR6 as a toy but that's now made way for something older

Aircooled;

58 bug, had this for 13 years, the first 2 being spent restoring it.

Current 71 California import Ghia, very original (apart from me lowering it...)
Anyway, back to the mk5, found the other day I have no brake lights unless standing on the pedal, investigation required tomorrow, probably in the rain.

What a gorgeous collection!   :signLOL:

I've had the mk2 GTI, Corrado, LCR also. Good taste ;)

Miss the Corrado I must say. Future classic I reckon.

Brake lights - now working, at some point the switch had been changed but did'nt look to seat properly....
Next on the list is a rear wiper, last owner removed it and while it does look good I'm missing one this time of year. Luckily a mate is clearing his garage out and had a working motor, got a new arm on order however the washer pipe is going to take a little reviving.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv514%2Fslammed58bug%2Fimage_6.jpeg&hash=9535b2d95598ee38c33e9126aaff87cdfc19c8e1)
2" self tapper used to block it so the pipe is now toast). Will try a few local scrappy's.
