Hey guys!
I've recently bought an edition 30 and as I live about 5-6 miles away from rtech, I think the only way is R-tech makes sense .
Now I hope the mods don't mind but I'd like to keep this post about remap questions and the parts I'll be ordering over the next few days hopefully.
My aim is hopefully the stage2+ as below. The car is currently stock with no performance mods whatsoever.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fss301%2Fuk-mkivs%2F1FBBE3F6-7F6E-4772-948E-24D1EDF9B8E3_zpskv49iduh.png&hash=2aae6ea6506a3cfd76131d65c149a83bb99d4919)
Ben from Rtech emailed it over to me during my lunch break and I must say, it's exactly what I need.
Okay guys, question 1)
There is a full stainless steel exhaust system on eBay which is a 2.75" diameter, however it is advertised for the standard GTi MK5 only. Now I have done some research and most people have stated on different posts that, the k03 engine GTis exhaust system will also fit an ED30 KO4 and vice versa- could someone please clarify on this matter as the seller has said 'it is not listed for my vehicle'.
Thanks in advance guys
-
Hi,
R-tech are probably one of the best and as your local it makes perfect sense to go with them.
the exhaust from a mk5 and edition 30 would be the same as its the same chassis.
-
I've fitted the needed parts to get my Ed. 30 tuned to Stage 2+. You can check my project or any other with that level of tune.
I'm loving my Powervalve exhaust with a sports cat. Just my wallet isn't... :signLOL:
-
Best to try and get a true 3" system, miltek advertise they are 3" but they're actually 2.75 too. To answer your question, it will fit no matter if its for a ed30 or not bud :)
-
Best get ordering them I suppose lol. Also guys, what about downpipe wise? Should I just get the eBay specials as they're around £130 ish but will they fit the k04 ed30 or are they just for the mk5 gti non Ed?
-
Okay guys what intercooler?
I've read that there's some that use a joint which is used along your existing cooler and some, which replaces the oem cooler.
Which one would you go for?
eBay item numbers : 181929109114, 151376172163 or
161389983239
:D

i ran an ebay one for a year no problems and ran 360bhp

Thanks buddy. Are you aware if there's any different fittings for the standard gti and ed30?
I might also get a ignition cut rev limiter mapped in lol. I had one on my vxr and it sounded stupidly loud lol

No difference mate.

- eBay down pipe (direnza)
And a bcs cat back for a good flowing system.
- Cold air intake. Revo, evoms or itg. Revo seems to get most votes but it's the most expensive but does look good!
- rev G diverted valve
- r tech pcv delete
- 5/40 oil
- ngk plugs
- hpfp loba
- intercooler I havnt really looked into as I'm stage 2 but I'm sure niki and guys at r tech are looking to put a welly cooler kit together soon?
Otherwise I would speak to Alex at aks he seems to send a lot of intercooler slit the door! And always right money from Alex
Nice little shopping list for you ;) welcome to the slippery slope of modding/tuning a mk5

Lol £2k ish hopefully. Not to mention the £500 I spent on having bits and bobs painted on the car!
-
If your car is a manual I would budget another £1000 on an uprated clutch, flywheel and fitting.

Haha there's people on here that have spent a lot more than that mate! And as above if manual budget for clutch!

Don't forget good tyres, good brakes and good suspension. What is power without control?

Think we've already blown the 2k budget
How's the car mate? Finally enjoying it after all them mods? :happy2:

No doubt there is lol as I've seen but being 24 with a mortgage on my head and the fact that I've never modified a car myself lol, it's probably going to be a little painful.

Lol crazy guys!
Tbh, the problem that I have is, I don't mind throwing money at the ed but I have a issue where I keep getting bored quickly and getting rid. I've had two claims this year, both non fault and even if I fall in love with the car, eventually something happens which means I have to get rid (I.e either Wright off or I find something else).

I don't think you will get bored of the ed they're so tunable you get used to the power you spend another 500£ and it's like another step up again.
And I'm 21 with a mortgage and I manage to mod ;) but I have my house rented atm. I'm moving in next year so will be no mods at all after that which is why I'm trying to get quite a few bits done on the ed30 over the winter and get it to where I want it. Did you say you had an Astra vxr before this? I had an astravan with full vxr interior and vxr front end ect :)

Yeah, loving it but I know it still very tamed. It needs the tune to unleash its potential.

Just paid the £90 deposit to rtech. Booked in for Thursday 10th December at 12:00 :driver:

My old vxr at flow dynamics rolling road getting a map tweak by SMtuning ..
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fss301%2Fuk-mkivs%2FD075A881-87FD-455A-AA3B-34571D0A314E_zpsobkttkl1.jpg&hash=0e6932ad639319550e745d20047f128706dfe4f3)
The car had a very aggressive map. It's like the revs would fly to 7k really quick! It had a DREAMSCIENCE map on the car which are known to be very aggressive. Sean at SMtuning had a look over the map and added the ignition cut rev limiter lol.

Mate of mine had a mapped VXR a while ago, sounded mental and went like s**t off a stick. He misses it even more after going out in my R-Tech Stage 1 GTI recently!
Loads more tuning potential to be had with the ed30 over a vxr though. You can get close to 400bhp on the k04 with the right mods.

Mine had 296 bhp with 340ft torque because as I said previously due to the aggressive map. It sounded wicked with the scoprion turbo back and pre cat delete. The VXR was a very aggressive car. I would describe it as a hardcore car, where as the ED30 feels like a BMW/MERC as its so refined. They both had similar engines and turbos, but the difference is day and night in the driving point of view.

Also, if the mods can move this to the members rides please and I will update if possible

Hi OP hope you don't mind me jacking your thread with a quick question to anyone who can help me?.
I have a gti tfsi dsg and have fitted a neuspeed P-flo pipe and Ramair filter on- problems I'm getting are high revving, fuel consumption and lack of power but thr thing sounds awesome.
Does the dsg or ecu need to be remapped for a filter to be fitted as ive gone back to the OEM airbox and all is well again
Many thanks

Im not sure if the standard maps are kind of confused as its getting in a % of extra air, but then again, I'm sure the Bosch management systems are clever which they can compensate?
I'm sure someone with a bit more knowledge will be on their way soon...
Just check the airflow sensor and all connections and just ensure you haven't disturbed any ther sensors.

Hi BigA, seriously I'm confused as nothing else was disturbed and it's fairly easy to replace the filter although a little tight where it fits the turbo.
MAF is fine all connections are fine. I think it's just way too much air flow is all I can think of. It's very loud too. even on gentle take offs. I've fitted the oem box back of and power shoots back to normal and he gears run smooth and faultless but when the filter is on that's when there are issues.
Maybe if I take the battery negative off for 30 minutes to reset the ecu might help as ive not tried that but maybe should have when the filter was on?.
Thanks again
M

AFAIK maybe the reading from the MAF aren't correct with that CAI. From Revo and the likes you'll be fine. Others I don't know. The ECU can compensate for the extra air available if the MAF readings are correct, if I'm seeing the problem right.

I wish I knew how else to describe the problem but that's the only way I know. Seems like way too much air going in and the ecu isn't compensating for this resulting in high revving then taking off slow and a poor response in gears.
Maybe it is in need of a remap but that'll be the first as ive never had this issue fitting a cai system before
Thanks

Different cars, different characteristics.
I remember on a AGU engined golf, you could run a vent to atmosphere dump valve but on the later models such as, aum, bam etc, you could only run a recirculation valve as the tolerances are tighter. I would get a professional opinion or a vagcom scan to rule out any failed sensor(s).

I've ran a BOV on a bam engine with no trouble but I got fed up of thr pssssht pssssht every time I changed gear lol it was embarrassing :ashamed:
Can I ask what I should be looking for and which measuring block I need to check on vcds please?.
Thanks

I don't have vagcom lol. I may invest in a Chinese dvd version soon though!

 I have both dvd version and Rosstech for the newer cars.
I'm going have to do a search and see what I can find. I'm 100% certain there isn't anything wong with my MAF as it's running well with my ugly box filter. lol
Need to get the Neuspeed pipe and a other cone filter on if weather is ok and remove batt terminal just to be sure it's not the Ramair filter being so big.
Thanks

Gotta revive this for old times sakes lol
It was my DV that was goosed and causing the issues I was having so thanks
Why the heck did I just into a random thread :slap: :signLOL:

Had me worried then, ive hopefully bought a neuspeed intake with a ramair filter But the filter looks small, is this the difference between the normal and oversized version, should I bother with the normal sized one?
