Anyone used these?
Currently buy one get one free:

My driver's side bulb has gone, they are aftermarket super-white, but they have no branding and as they were fitted by the previous owner I don't know what they are, so planning to replace both and keeping the other good one as a spare for emergencies.
Any other recommendations vs the above?
Also, is it possible to upgrade the smaller light to a white bulb, and if so can anyone point me to a solution / tell me what bulb type I need?
thanks
Ed

I've got some of these on my car, they're ok. definitely an improvement over standard but there are better bulbs out there. Might uswel go for some philips Xtreme (I think that's what they're called).
-
yea the philips Xtremes are pretty good, they seemed to of won all the awards in auto express magazine. i had them in my type R and they were a big improvement over standard. Saying that though the type r with upgraded bulbs produced alot less light than a gti with standard bulbs, the type r was notoriously bad for the light quality though.
they retail at around £20

Osramnightbreakers get the thumbs up from me

Thanks guys - will Halfrauds sell the Philips? Been searching since posting the thread and they do seem to get the best reviews.

yes, big time. pain in the ass as for the passenger side i had to remove the ITG filter and foam heat guard to get in there. what a pain in the ass

Might just live with the sidelights then til I get round to Xenons.

i never had any problems with my phillips bulbs, but that doesnt surprize me as phillips are probably the sh*ttest brand in the world, I always said i would never buy phillips again ive had 4 phillips items from Tvs, tooth brushes, dvd players and every single one off them broke very quickly, infact i had 2 warranty TVs in 3 months Propper Sh1t Brand. rant over
the only reason i bought phillips bulbs for the type r was that i needed the brightest possible as the standard bulbs were mince !
surely though they cant fcuk up something as simple as bulbs

Not a bad idea, but put some new ones in while ur fitting the xenon headlights as they are a pain to change (side light bulbs) when headlights installed as i fitted the led ones recently and like said above i cut my fingers to s*it!!!

Well, went for Halfords Extreme Brilliance in the end as they were also 2 for 1:

I have to say, they are extremely brilliant! :signLOL:
Seriously though, very impressed.
Also changed the sidelights, what am I missing, I managed to get mine straight in and out with zero problems? Do I just have thinner fingers than you all or are we talking about different bulbs? I'm talking about the tiny ones on the inner of the two lights in the cluster?
Anyone considering the Extreme Brilliance bulbs, two thumbs up from me especially 2 for 1!
cheers

I'm a fan of the Halfords Super Brilliance bulbs as the colour of the light seems to improve visibility. X-treme power has a whiter appearance, but I don't think that they light up the road any better.
Incidentally the Super Brilliance bulbs are actually GE 'Megalight plus.'

I have the Phillips in mine and they are a massive improvement.
TBH Its not really hard to go wrong with an aftermarket bulb, they are all a million times better than the standard sh*te VW stick there.

On the cupra, I did my sidelights with the ITG still fully in place.
Osram nightbreakers are great fgor dipped and sidelights.

^^ Osram NB in sidelights?
I had the osrams in my full beam and philips in dipped because I couldn't decide. The philips looked whiter than the Osrams. They both improved the light output on the road. I would say that the Osrams were slightly better for visibility but the philips were whiter.
i know how xenons which is the best of both. Excellent light output and a nice white beam. :happy2:
