Hi,
The brake pads at the back definitely need changing, however, I'm wondering if the discs also need doing. There is a very slight lip but otherwise the disc looks fine.

theres probably life left in them. but whilst you got the ideal oppertunity in your hands.. it would make sense to just do it
-
Have you checked the inner sides as they can be worse?.
-
Measure their thickness. Start by comparing what you have to the current MOT requirements and see what you think.
Or take it to a trusted garage and get their opinion.
The photos don't look like either are worn to the point of needing immediate replacement though. Hard to tell from a photo .

If they are check your caliper mounting sleeves, they may be sticking.

I actually got ripped off when I bought my golf as the out looked good but inner were severely scored on both front and rear discs. stupid me didn't think I'd get robbed but I did.

Cheers for the replies fellas. Going to change the front pads and see about the rear discs when I get them off.
-
What's the minimal thickness on oem discs as this is stamped in them. the dealer will say replace them, mot stain should advise them and I'd say you can use them till your next pad change hopefully not sooner.

Not sure mate, haven't replaced them yet. I'll let you know when I do

Was thinking if someone else knew it would help you
-
I think its
22 mm front
10 mm rear
-
If that is correct or close enought then I would say neither require replacing as they don't look like they've worn to that limit.
-
Mine looked about the same.
These were the measurements. I replaced them anyway. :stupid:
front 22.640mm
back 10.785mm
-
Lol fair enough. I'd go another round with them and change on the next pad change.
I've seen wafer thin ones on a car and wondered what would happen if they had snapped whilst braking. now that's dangerously :stupid:
-
I replaced with reasonably priced discs, hawk pads and super blue fluid. Only do 5000km a year so should be a while before i need to look at them again. Unless i go big.
-
Out of interest, what is the thickness when new?
I've just picked up a set of Brembo pads (front and rear).
-
Fronts are 25mm... rears are 12mm i think
-
^^^ Correct.
