Looking for ballpark figures for replacing either the engine or gearbox for the Gti..
Im looking at buying a gti with perfect body but has either a dodgy engine or gearbox. (still waiting on confirmation)
What am I looking at cost wise for either.. Id like to buy from a crashed doner car and not a brand new engine from the Stealers..
-
You're looking at £1500 for the engine fitting varies.
Gearbox dsg or manual dsg will cost around £500-600 cheaper if yu can find it. check on ebay for both boxes. Privett for fitting possibly around £250-300 and you're better off replacing clutxh components such and flywheel clutch slave cylinder depending on condition.

Thanks R5..
Not as bad as I thought. Hopefully I get this car now :)

If it's dirt cheap then buy it now :signLOL:
18k dsg let's hope it's the dsg to save you from buying an engine :rolleye: :driver:
Sounds good and I'm now curious as to whats wrong with it myself
Good luck and do let us know :happy2:

I'd just be curious as to why a car with 18k miles on the clock has a nackard engine or gearbox.. Does it possibly point at the owner neglecting maintainance perhaps

Depending on what the problem is and if mileage is correct which I'd check pre buying including checking MOT history I'd say driver error or lack of maintenance.

Ill keep you guys posted..
Still no word on it yet.
Might just be a blown DSG box. Can happen even at low low miles

Not really as ive not heard of it or read about the dsg failing at such low miles or the owner would be straight to vw having words for a free gearbox.

ok well Im speculating..lol
Good point about going back to VW if the DSG blew.
Anyway, Ill know a bit more tomorrow.. Ill update then ;)

So this would be number 3? :rolleye:
I think you might have bit of a Pirelli fetish? :P
-
Indeed it will be número 3!
Im building a collection. lol
If I get this car and it not that bad. I'll use it as a base to mod the hell out of it. I'll sell the other 2 as they are pristine and unmolested and I'm in two minds about modding one of them.
But I'm taking a chance as its Sold as seen
-
UPDATE...
Didnt get it.. It went for a bit over twice what I was willing to pay..
Must have been very little wrong with it.
-
Never mind as you still have two :happy2:
-
Bit greedy if you ask me

You can't have to many cars :signLOL: as when I lived in Birmingham I alway had two cars at a time :driver:

R5gtt Uno Turbo
R5GTT VR6
R5GTT GTi mk1
In London TT mk1 and current GTi

I no you didn't buy it but engine price's vary massively. When I was in need of an engine last year I was having quotes of anywhere from £700 to £1200.
I then found one for £400 and while waiting for a lift to go and get it I was having my usual look threw eBay and another had just been put on 10 miles from my house. Rang the number on the add and got it for £100 :P yes you read that right!
Obviously it was an absolute bargain and will probably never happen again but if anyone is ever in need of one then don't just jump for the first one.
-
£100 :surprised: that's the cheapest tfsi engine I've ever heard of. :congrats:
-
To be fair the cambelt was snapped. I did miss that bit out :innocent: lol
But it was a genuine 40,000 mile bwa lump. I used the head of an engine I had, sorted the other head that I took off and then the head alone sold on eBay for something like £700!

Even though the belt was snapped that's still a bargain :jumping: see you made a further x hundred too.
