I found this brilliant video comparing the MK1-MK7.
Worth watching to the end to see which once he thinks is the best :happy2:

Nice little vid, reason I bought mine!

Interesting video, very annoyed at whoever edited it though, showed the MK6 going around the corner when it was supposed to be the MK7 at around 7 minutes in. Also showed the MK7 clocks when it was supposed to be the MK5 interior.
Also the way he says faster and faster and faster
Also he said decades and decades and decades and decades.
Idea Is great but the execution annoyed me.
Rant over :signLOL:

Great video. Thanks for sharing. I really liked the delivery and content.
Can't argue with the winner haha. It is a cliché but it really does everything. My favourite part has to be the standard exhaust note. Not too loud but nice and deep.

Thanks for sharing.
My favourites have always been the MK2 and the MK5 GTIs.

I enjoyed it thank you for the link. :happy2:

Nice video :happy2:
I had a mk1 mk3 vr6 and now the beastly mk5 :jumping:

Surely the mk5 and mk6 are pretty much the same car?

Surely the mk5 and mk6 are pretty much the same car?
Pretty much but from what I have heard the MK6 is a lot more refined and a much nicer place to be inside. Some might say that the added refinement numbs the sensation of driving a GTI which is probably why the MK5 is more highly rated.
-
Also the MK6 GTI is uglier and the engine is sh*t

Agree with this. My mate has a mk6 gti and the cabin is much nicer, more refined and feels more modern than the mk6. However my mate had a bash in my ed30 and was surprised how much quicker and more 'alive' it felt.
Video is good imo but some the editing is rank!!

I've found the MK6 cabin to be the opposite of nice. One of the main reasons VW built the MK6 was due to the cost of manufacturing the MK5. The MK6 has noticeably cheaper parts. The most obvious being the plastics below the gear knob, which are completely different to the upper plastics and very cheap. Then there's things like the instrument clusters which are not polarised, unlike the MK5 ones. I don't like the MK6. Had my intentions on getting one, but after sitting in my brothers it's an inferior product. Definitely more modern, but more upmarket it is not.

Fair enough bud! Guess I didn't inspect it too closely then! :happy2:

Haha you're not as pedantic as me. The final straw for me was the oil dipstick, it's literally a thin bendy piece of metal. Something you'd find on a Fiesta. Whereas in the MK5, it's a solid piece of metal with graded markings.

I was going to say this. We have friends who have both on their drive and their opinion aligns with this.
I've also spoken with my specialist about the 7R and they said of this that while feeling 'safe' rather than exciting it was somewhat uninspiring when compared to a well modified ED30, a bit short on personality. They also said that when you get underneath and look at components and manufacturing techniques you can see where the cost savings have been made. This doesn't mean it's a poor car, far from it, the engineers have done their job. Saved money and upped driver appeal...and that will sell cars.
