Just brought a new gti. I wanted to modify it a bit any ideas and when I checked for fault codes one came up reading sensor reference voltage A low what is it . No lights are on dash and car drives perfect so it's not affecting the car but what is it(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fmoy786%2FMobile_Uploads%2F5734be268d0f9_1.jpg&hash=858ddb834218fe3854cd5dcaa2fdc4d02e4c5d6e)[/URL(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fmoy786%2FMobile_Uploads%2F5734bf482bac6_1_kindlephoto-9947802.jpg&hash=8a3e04e6b6eb9a62af610cddddd0392dedc5dc90)[/URL(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fmoy786%2FMobile_Uploads%2F5734bf1331cb4_1_kindlephoto-9857552.jpg&hash=d42d0b8a00abb05f601fdcbd2991f04577aa7929)[/URL(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fmoy786%2FMobile_Uploads%2F5734bf903e4f8_1_kindlephoto-9776650.jpg&hash=0b870292904a917cb96f5f48ba47ea3e164f0be0)[/URL(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fmoy786%2FMobile_Uploads%2F5734bebf2511b_1.jpg&hash=1241f47e5510dec108ff5bbf9bc898d5f7556f6f) (http://s945.photobucket.com/user/moy786/media/Mobile%20Uploads/5734be268d0f9_1.jpg.html)

Any modifications idea or advice on what to do to make it better let me no.
-
Have a read through the members ride section and you will get loads of ideas :signLOL:
-
headlights and wheels for starters :P
-
I quite like the wheels, looks a fine example. My advice would be to carry out any preventative maintenance items first before you start modding it. Full service, HPFP cam follower etc. Good luck with the car! :happy2:
-
I agree with @Octoparrot (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=14844) carry out maintanence work first like PCV, diverter valve, cam follower, servicing etc. No idea what your fault is but if you have a look on here for the fault code you might get an idea once you get the fault code via VCDS:
http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Category:Fault_Codes
Then would be a good base to mod - If you go for cosmetics externally my choice would be to colour code the black plastics and maybe change the wheels if you don't like the look. Internally you could do things like head unit upgrade to RNS510 (With canbus change if required) and highline dash upgrade and MFSW buttons.
Performance mods a good start would be stage 1 (R-Tech are one of the most recommended guys for remaps) and a exhaust system (BCS and Miltek seem to be the most preferred options I found) the rest is up to you how far you want to go
Welcome to the forum and enjoy your slippery slope of modding your GTI!
-
Excellent point with the maintenance side of things first :happy2: expecially that fuel pump cam follower.
-
Car got been serviced last month by audi. But I don't no alliance t about the common things I need to replace like cam followers till now and pcv etc what else do I need to check any advice will be appreciated.

Divertor valve as yours could look like this. :surprised:
fits around the right hand side if the engine on the turbo at the rear

Thanks mate for the advice what else should I check or replace as this is my first golf gti
-
My favourite item or items are gear box mount check and replace if required. usually tell when your car judders when taking up drive but could also be the dog mount under the car so that should be checked too.
Spark plugs BKR7EIX platinum if the vw haven't replaced the standard ones on the service as this is usually replaced on a full service only. if they are okay leave them. console bushes are front wishbone rear bushes and could also be torn so good idea to check those or have them checked.
Mine were torn so replaced with after market polyurethane bushes. now feels more solid and less bouncy and a lot less like the cars in flight.

Has anyone got part number for diverter valve, pcv, cam follower and can you recommend where to buy it from any links will be great.
-
TPS is probably your best bet mate - if you ask them for those parts they SHOULD be able to help (my local TPS however sent me a sun visor clip instead of a cam follower though after they originally thought i was talking about a cam belt kit and they had never heard of cam follower  )
-
TPS is trade only so won't help me.

Got the cambelt done so not to worry about it now. Will have a look at diverter valve and can follower in a week time due to work. What does sensor reference voltage A circuit low mean as that's the code came up with a diagnostic tool but car seems to be fine so can't figure out what it is. Had a look on Google but can't get much information.
-
I would recommend the GFB DV+ it is a little bit more expensive than oem but it works and it's reliable

I would also recommend a replacement filter if your not going to go for full on induction kit. I put a Ramair one in mine and seems to do the job

Shameless self promotion? Honestly, when I bought my car at first I didn't know where to start and the best thing I found was a similar guide from a member who was on here many years ago!
Good luck!

As the others have said, the maintenance stuff like check DV valve PCV etc. Mind and check the cabin pollen filter, under/behind glove box as it is often not changed and gets pretty minging!
Other good cheap mods are things like interior LED's, LED number plate lights, Stubby aerial, seat adjustment badge inserts...
More expensive stuff like exhausts, bumper/trim colour coded or even go for r32 rear bumper and exhaust, remap, air intake, get it detailed, upgrade engine mounts... depends what you want from the car...
There are literally a million things you can do to mod a car, have a look through the other members rides threads and see what you like and don't like.

What's the actual error code?
-
Basically it reads P0642 sensor reference voltage A circuit low
-
damn! i've had my car a while and never thought about the DV... :S clearly i doin't spend enough time on here! I'll have to make a purchase me thinks!

I think someone already suggested you go to rosstech wiki...
Anyway, welcome. A bit of self reading always helps...
Here is the rosstech wiki page and your fault code....I would get the car scanned using a proper version of vcds (formally vagcom) and then clear the code. Drive it for a few days and then rescan. If the fault code comes back then start looking at possible solutions. You'll probably find that it doesn't come back though....If you haven't got access to vcds that you know of then put a thread up where you are and if there is anyone local to you that has vcds and would be willing to help. I have vcds and have scanned a number of cars locally, saving them £60 approx to go to a main dealer and get a 'diagnostic check'
HTH. (Hope that helps)

It's just cooked on with grease and threadlock. You really need the right tools. I had about 4 attachments on my spanner to get enough leverage!
-
Which bolt? I used a quarter inch ratchet (6 inches long) and a 2inch extension, but just used that to break the bolts loose. Then took the extension off the ractchet and just turned the extension by hand to get the bolt fully out.
I would get a really secure fitting (bit fully into the bolt head and nice and tight) and then use force. Saying that, you DONT want to round off the head - which is why I put emhphasis on the secure bit.
Out of interest where in the uk are you?

I can get the 2 Allen key bolt off but the one hidden away a bit is really fiddly to do. I have to try again over the weekend but will borrow ratchet extension and axle stand, as I jacked it up and had the wheel under it just in case but I'll feel more safe with Adel stand. I live in suffolk near ipswich.

Bit far from me but yeah give it a go,
On a side note you should never ever work under a car on a Jack, even with a with wheel under its still potential lethal. Axle stands if going underneath
-
I will get some axle stand , I no I took a risk won't happen again thanks for your concern. I even took the plastic mud guards off too for more space .

jeez! i had my car up on two axle stands the other day and had a 25 tonne trolly jack on another point just in case the axle stands failed and i still sh*t myself! no way would i stick my head under a 1 tonne + car with just a jack! deffo get some axle stands :happy2:
-
A bloke died under his audi when working off a jack.not top long ago :sad1:
I hope it wasnt the stock jack that comes with the car, they dont call them widow makers for no reason!
-
It was a trolley Jack. I just brought set of axle stand from halfords. Was thinking is it better to replace the diverter valve with a latest oem one or get a r tech upgrade one or similar.
-
Latest OEM Revision G should do the trick.
-
I will be getting the car remaped in month or so will the standard diverter valve hold
-
Rev g oem is fine
-
I'll use the ome one in that case. I don't no if my one is ok or if it is old version till I remove my old valve.I'll keep all updated. Also got a forge diverted valve adapter (blow off valve) got it cheap so will put it on see what I think.
