Resprayed the wheels in a fresher more silverly silver (If that makes sense)
Smooth US Spec Front Grill with Shortened Plate - Fitted
RNS510 - Struggling with fitting due to Can-Gateway issues
Custom EMP Ca-tBack Exhaust System - Will be for sale soon as its far to loud!
LED's All round
I plan to do the following;
Induction Kit of some description (Ramair?)
Remap - most likely RTech
and generally enjoy my 70 miles a day!
Let me know what you think
-
Stunning! That shine.... :notworthy:

I'm in the process of doing a few maintenance tasks before going to R-Tech for a stage 1 map!
Just changed my oil for Millers Nanodrive
Ill also be replacing the following;
Cam Follower and Seal
Diverter Valve to revision G.
Bought and fitted a RamAir Oversized Induction kit and i love it! Its made the car pick up so much better - cant wait for the map!!
I need to cut down the last silicone hose to make the filter fit better - its abit tight down there at the moment.

-
Wow! Red is the best colour! And your's just shows it off so damn well! :happy2:
If I could get my blue one half as shiny as yours I'd be satisfied!

-
Stunning mate!! Mines a tornado red 5 door too. It's crying out for paint correction! Your car is motivating me to get the finger (and the D/A) out!
Mines only a lowly standard(ish) Ko3 model
I've a stage 1 map and full custom turbo back 3inch exhaust. Next on my list is the RAMair induction kit. I just can't decide between the normal size and the oversize??
Do you know is there any significant advantage to oversize vs "normal" size??
Cheers in advance
Dave

Thanks again to everyone who's commented - I think my photos make it look better than it is! :innocent:
I'm on the look out for a full exhaust system if anyone has one for sale!?
I'd need a resonated version as i drive the car 70 miles a day just to work and back so something that doesn't drone on motorways would be ideal!
Oh and im also booked in for a RTech Stage 2 in August... EXCITED! :jumping:

Its an APR RSC Full Turbo Back with a 200 Cell Sports Cat which retails at £1720! :surprised:
I picked it up for £500 and I'm over the moon with how it sounds, i cant get over how quiet it is on the motorway.
Its quiet and reserved untill you really give it some beans then it roars and the DSG Bangs are to die for!

nice one! arnt apr blueflame? or they used to be? don't see many of them about tbh cos their systems are so expensive!
-
great looking car! wish mine shined like that  you got a great deal on the exhaust! how are you finding the ramair intake? im torn between the standard size one and the oversized like youve got.
-
Thanks again for all the nice comments :D
No i don’t think it’s the same company, APR are primarily an American based VAG tuner. They have some awesome bits of kit! This is the exhaust i have - http://www.goapr.co.uk/products/apr_exhaust_20tfsi.html
And to be perfectly honest I couldn’t tell you the difference between the oversized and the normal as I’ve only experienced the oversized.
I’m guessing the pipe diameters are bigger meaning it allows more air…? It’s pretty bloody noisy though; I get loads of turbo chatter and it puts a smile on my face!

Thank you!!
The headlights are rubbish in my opinion, the light output is terrible! The beam is scattered and the actual light output is poor (I've had 5k HID's and Phillips Xtreme Vision Bulbs, both pretty sh*t)
They look brilliant though, depends what you're after i guess...
And no i got mine second hand from a person on ebay!
-
I've got the depo headlights and I found with most lamps and cheaper hid kits they look crap. I went a bit higher on the HID market and paid £70 and its made all the difference imo - passed mot easily and actually gives out an immense amount of light at night!

How do you find the new released power?
-
Well that's a pretty decent amount of power! So what mods do you have as I only read about the exhaust & the intake?! You must have more to get to that figure?
I can't believe I've left my ED30 standard engine-wise for so long! I was wanting Revo for the switchable maps, but posts like these about R-tech make me think otherwise...
Nice cars waiting to be mapped too!
-
How do you find the new released power?
Well - Turns out its not exactly newly released!
I bought the car in April and it was completely standard bar H&R Springs, the guy at the dealership told me the previous owner fitted them because his standard spring had cracked and he thought it'd be worth upgrading them. It was a positive because id of done the same with whichever ED30 i bought... Now i always suspected the car was mapped but didn't really have any proof (It was very fast and i haddn't driven any others to compare!) - I went to R-Tech with my RamAir Induction Kit and the Full APR TurboBack and was hoping for 330bhp after the map.
As soon as Niki got in my car and drove it onto the ramp he came back over to me and asked "Who's mapped the car before". I said i wasn't aware it was mapped and he said he'd run it and see what power it was putting out without him making any changes. 333bhp...
He tweaked the map and had it running for about 40 mins - Finished result 345.9BHP. Limiting factor was the fuel pump (Im now searching for a HPFP) which should see me up around 360-370!

As above...
RamAir Induction Kit
APR TurboBack Exhaust
with Millers Nanodrive oil and V-Power Fuel.
Ahhhh well now i will completely change your mind....
R-Tech maps come with 5 switchable settings - takes 10 seconds to change the map from stage 1 low power to stage 5 peak power.
-
Really nice :happy2:
-
Love the shine, great power gains too.
-
Add an S3 IC or from the Golf mk6 R to that HPFP. Should be enough for your hot weather. Keep an eye out for used items in good condition.
-
Good result, As already mentioned go for a more substantial Intercooler too if you are considering going any further with tuning. I would be more than happy with those figures at stage 2 though!
-
I've you've got the funds, go for a Peron. Decent gains over S3/R and ideal for k04.
Standard IC is a bit crap for anything over 300bhp imo. Even the S3/R IC will be a big help.
-

Although he did get 345 BHP presumably with the standard IC.
Nice motor, and great numbers. I was wanting to aim for around the 350 BHP mark, but if all I need is a decat (mine has APR induction and Miltek Cat-Back already) and I can get around 340 bhp, I'd be chuffed as a chuffed fellow.
Loving the look of yours though. Must be a lot of hard graft in making it shine so well. What products do you use? My other cars are all greys and black, so kind of bought my polishes to line up more with them. So interested to hear if there are any recommendations for red cars, or if I should just fire on with what I have.
-
Jeez I thought I did a good job giving mine a scrub at the weekend but yours makes mine look dirty!

Yeah you can achieve good figures on the dyno with the standard IC, but it's far from ideal. There's a whole heap of benefits to getting the charge temperature down, as well as achieving better flow. I've just been out in my k03 Stage 2 (270bhp) with standard IC and you can really tell that it's holding back in hotter ambient temps. I will be upgrading to either an S3/mk6 R IC, or a Peron/Airtec, depending whether I stick with the k03 or go k04/k03 hybrid respectively.
As for red... mine's Tornado Red, and I get good results with Autoglym Super Resin Polish (two coats if I can) followed by Autoglym HD Wax. As long as your paintwork is in decent condition it's really quite easy to get a nice glossy finish, and the HD Wax does a good job of protecting that finish for a good few months. Much easier than black, that's for sure! Mine does need a good machine polish at some point, as there's still room for improvement. I'll carry on with the Autoglym polish and wax once this is done.

Great numbers!

Thank you again for all your comments!!
I may well go for an uprated IC at some point but for now i'm happy!
Picked up some Audi S3 brakes the same day i got my map done.
They're from a rather famous S3 (S3 XXY) owned by Wayne Simpson. (Also owns 666rs the merlin purple RS6 and a GT3RS :notworthy:)
Hopefully get them fitted soon which should stop the brake fade when im having some fun! :innocent:

Easily done! I considered giving mine a fresh coat but they're not in bad nick at all. They really should be on the car by now but I've got engine gremlins spoiling my budget..!

I have also got the following since these photo's were taken;
I plan to do the following;
Induction Kit of some description (Ramair?)
Remap - most likely RTech
and generally enjoy my 70 miles a day!
Let me know what you think
Rob please tell me how you bring such a deep color of red out? I also have tornado red but I have noticed swirl marks and looks more like a bright red instead of a nice deep red like yours!

Good meeting you and racing with you up the strip bud :driver:
-
Still a fab looking example, Something I could never do though take my ED30 down the strip or do a track day. I have never launched a car off the mark in 12 Years of driving!
Sounds like you had fun though!
-
Why bonelorry? Never been tempted?

Why bonelorry? Never been tempted?
Too mechanically sympathetic, One lap around the Nurburgring is probably more abuse than I give a car in 1 Year!
Launching a car on 1/4 Mile I find a bit brutal, Fair enough if its just a toy car built for that purpose but my own cars get pampered. I have actually been put of going to view cars for sale in the past that have been on track days or 1/4 Mile sprints.
Don't get me wrong, When the mood and conditions allow I enjoy the odd overtake and spirited drive.
Not knocking the OP's car by the way but you asked me why :happy2:
-
I can understand that. Your cars wouldn't be in as good condition if you did. I might be buying a road legal track car this weekend, do you think that might have been ragged? :signLOL: anyway ill stop hijacking the thread, lovely car!

@Lucastheone92 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=16750) - My car has been resprayed in its lifetime so that may explain the ott deep shine. Although i do spend roughly 2 hours cleaning the car every weekend and its layered in wax, Oh and It's also kept in the garage overnight!
@Rob1 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=9617) Thank you!! :)
@Sulley91 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=17197) Thanks bud! Were you the one with the Grey Eddy? If so I have a video of our race :P
@bonelorry (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=7168) Each to their own i guess... I drive my car every single day, I commute 70 miles a day and pamper my car every single weekend. It gets serviced and has its oil changed every 5k. These cars were designed to be driven fast and that is exactly what i do (when it is safe to do so of course) Thank you for your comment and yes, i did have fun! :innocent:

A short front plate does wonders for the front end of an ed30. Looks spot on. Is it standard size letters but just shortened, or are the letters slightly smaller than normal too?
I'm toying with the idea of getting a private reg (... DUB hopefully) but want to keep it within the law and not attract bored traffic cops!
-
I was indeed @Robburgazzi (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=15393) Rtech with DSG your were going to get away from me :signLOL:
-
If ya dont mind me asking what head light bulbs are ya using ive ordered osram unlimited last night to hopefully improve my standard h7s

Its 100% Legal, correct sizing, font, BSAu codes Just shortened due to me having one less number in my Reg. I recommend shortened plates, I've had them on my last 5 cars!

Im using HID-Direct 55w H7 HID's. I tried various halogen bulbs and the output through my depo headlights was awful. Much better now i have HID's!

Had these fitted over the weekend.
They're the same as the Golf R and Audi S3 8v. Much much better over standard, i have so much more confidence in the car!
-
Very nice! I'd only get the plaque painted like the GTI Performance Pack has: red with white GTI letters.

Very nice ed30!
How did you find it on the launch strip? I had mine remapped a few weeks back to 246 but now when I put my foot down to launch in 1st it spins, any tips?!

Did you change the calipers and lines yourself? If so how did it go, straight forward? Looking into this myself at the moment.

@Shoduchi (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10590) @AJP (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11926) - I actually like it with the black plaque, i think it breaks it up a bit.
@djnibz (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=16674) - Launching at Santa Pod and launching on the roads are two completely different things. The strip at Santa Pod is glued and prepared to ensure cars can have the best possible start.... the roads aren't. If I plant my foot or launch on normal roads mine spins in 1st, 2nd and 3rd! I do have 100bhp more though... :P
@Martk19871 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=13646) - Me and a friend did it at his garage. Straight forward enough, old ones off and then new ones on. Using the same carrier bolts and hoses as my originals. I couldn't use the S3 backing plates though as they didn't fit. If you want them i suggest getting MK5 R32 ones!
-
Cars coming together nicely mate! Brakes look awesome behind the wheel, I like the black and red combo too! Keep up the good work!

Hey everyone,
Still here, still going strong and just ticked over 100k.
Nothing much in the way of modifications;
Changed the H&R Springs for a full VW Racing Shock/Spring Set.
Audi TTS 340mm Mtec J Hooked Disks with Ferodo DS2500 Pads up front.
S3 Disk/Caliper Setup with OEM Disks/Pads on the rear
Open Grill Fog Surrounds
Maintainance;
The following was completed by me and a pal (Most of it was my pal!) at around 98k.
Genuine VW/Audi Cambelt Kit, Waterpump and Timing Chain Kit.
TTS HPFP (Due to breaking the sensor on mine)
NGK BKR7EIX Plugs and R8 Coilpacks
Oil Pickup Pipe changed and sump cleaned
Fresh Millers Oil
DSG Service
4x Michelin PS4's
I've just got back from a trip to Nurburgring - It was absolutely awesome and the car was spot on! I managed 3 laps and also a stint around the Grand Prix Circuit... this is 100% going to be an annual trip with plans on making the car more solid for my next trip...
Now for a couple of photo's...

The car looks great - a very similar spec to mine on the chassis. I always wanted a small drop & the VWR springs were the least drop I could find. Still very happy with them. How do you find the dampers? I went with Bilstein B8's, which are very well controlled at speed, maybe just a bit harsh on potholes and bumps!
Car looks great in the pics - couldn't notice your paint woes. Nürburgring is an awesome place - only been once & there's just something about the place...

Thank you! The car is normally driven by my other half who never complains about the ride, I think it's perfect, not too hard but definitely not soft.
I was so impressed with the way the car handled to be fair, I've always found it to be a little 'Boat'y' and not very solid. The turn-in was improved when I changed the front control arm bushes for powerflex ones and the rear seemed a little more stable when I fitted the rear brake kit!
I will most definitely be going back - going to try and make it an annual trip!
