Hi Guys
I'm gathering parts ready for the rebuild of my Edition 30 into a track car. I wanted to test fit my Volkswagen Racing brakes at the weekend but ran out of time. What i did manage was to put the 360mm disc on but that was it. When it was on, i did notice now close it was to the ball joint on the arm. It's about 2-3mm away from the disc, Is that correct?
I have a set of superpro alloy lower arms and adjustable ball joints to fit in the rebuild, however i need new hubs/carriers as mine are in terrible condition! I notice from a few threads that the S3 hubs/carriers are alloy and the same as GTI items. Is this correct as it makes sense for my to purchase alloy ones rather that steel. I'm just a bit worried that the alloy ones are slightly chunkier and then my alloy arm really will rub on the dicsc. Also will my VWR brakes bolt up to this like the standard GTI carriers?
Cheers

Superior ball joints will give less clearance than OEM so that might be an issue. My ball joints had to be ground down

I've got Superpro ball joints, S3 arms and hubs with a 370mm disc with no problems :happy2:

Just because it works in your application doesn't mean it will with others.

Thanks guys. It's the actual arm that seems to be the issue but it would only need a little out of it to give clearance.
Will my VWR brake kit bolt to the S3 carriers? I did see some posts about the material being thicker so it might give a different offset. I never really found an answer.

Carriers or hubs?

You'll need the longer S3 hub carrier bolts, as you've stated the alloy is thicker.

Carriers or hubs?
The alloy S3 carrier. As per the other reply i guess the brake caliper is in the same position and they have just added meat to the back of the carrier to give it strength hence needing longer bolts.

Sorry i dont understand.... VWR brakes with S3 carrier? Makes no sense.

The S3 part that people replace is the hub carrier and the hub itself. The hub and wheel bearing is one unit that attaches onto the hub carrier. The brake caliper attaches to the carrier, not the hub.

Do you know which longer bolts need to be ordered as I am fitting some S3 hubs to my golf in a week or so? Cheers

Apologies, i might have confused things with my terminology. The carriers will be the same, it's the hubs that are meatier only, you just need the longer carrier bolts that are used on the S3, i'll post up part numbers shortly :happy2:

Great, That's what i thought. So the longer bolts are for the hub to carrier mounting?
Everything else is the same in terms of wheel bearing etc?

Yes, and yes, sorry for the early confusion :happy2:

S3 hubs purchased
What wheel bearings will fit. I assume the GTI and S3 bearings are the same? GSF have 45% off at the moment so my order list is huge!
