Hi all
Some of you might remember me, I had a black Revo stage 2 edition 30 which i sold in 2014 to buy my first house.
House bought and settled in, now its time to get my favourite car back on the drive
I will be picking up my cousins low mileage Tornado red Edition 30 on Saturday, I will upload pictures with specs then :happy2:
watch this space for another tidy eddy on the forum..... :drinking:

I still have the EP3 as my daily mate, it will now live at the inlaws until I pull my finger out and sell it! I only ever bought the civic as a daily whilst I bought my first house and got settled in etc....back to the MK5 again

Thought it was you, it was a nice clean example if I remember rightly so can't see you having trouble selling it! My nhb ctr went in a week of advertising to a guy that came all the way from France! I can see why you are wanting to get back in an ed30 though, I loved my ep3 but couldn't go back now I've got torque in my life hahaa

The car is a huge credit to my cousin/s who have both looked after the car immensely during there ownerships
-
Stunning mate :happy2:
Remember your last eddy, so looking forward to see this in progress.
-
Looks very tidy indeed! Welcome back! Reckon there's a few decent upgrades you can do - highline / cruise. Sounds a great base, that's for sure!
-
I will keep an eye for xenons, high line and a mfsw, cruise isn't essential for me as all my family are now within 60 miles so travelling is very minimal for me now, it's the lowest mileage tornado red 3 door I've seen for ages, I have viewed 2 cars since June and didn't like either due to paint repairs and tatty interiors + other flaws which wasn't mentioned in the adverts! Can't wait to get my teeth into this one, I don't have as much spare mod money as the first eddy due to now being a home owner but it will still be a monster
-
I managed to get my 6R up to stage 2+ for a lot less cash buy keeping a watchful eye out on the classifieds and eBay and then did all the work myself, the only exceptions are the exhaust and ECU/DSG maps which were done by AmD Tuning.
On the subject of mappings, you going to get a custom one to replace the Bluefin one?
-
You do know it's got a colour coded GTI rear bumper rather than an ed30 one don't you....?
-

I will always do all the work myself like my last eddy apart from bits like bushes and electrics etc. But yeah I will be looki on eBay and here for parts. I will be booking in with R tech as soon as the maintenance bits are done and I'm back from holiday in September.

I just assumed it's a us spec bumper going from google image lol. I have already posted for a edition 30 rear bumper as I'm not a huge fan of the non standard item. There's 1 on eBay buy I want to see the condition before I buy it. Essex is about an hour from me so not to far.
-
Ah yeah, I missed the number plate. Poor yanks didn't get the ed30 did they! It'll look much better with the proper back end.
-
I will definitely be fitting the standard edition 30 bumper as I think it looks much better, Oem is best :)
-
This is a beauty
-
Thanks nibz
Anyone local with vagcom? Want some bits activated soon :happy2:
-
Looks a good car, be interesting to see what you do with this one.
That is the us spec gti rear bumper. If your swapping to the standard eddy one I'm sure someone was after a US spec one in the wanted section not long ago.
-
Looks very nice mate, paintwork looks to be in excellent condition. I'm with you on the rear bumper change though never been a fan of the u.s spec one!

I don't have VCDS but my VAG scanner can do coding as long as you know what the numbers are to input. If you get massively stuck, give me a shout as I can always help out. I may get VCDS soon anyway as I'm starting to really need a more powerful system.

Thanks bud, I see a thread in the cosmetic thread page and commented but haven't heard from the guy yet...

It looks okay but it's not my thing to be honest, I've always preferred Oem kits on cars so it will defiantly be going lol.

I just want little bits doing like alarm cherps, us day time running lights (30%) and a few other little bits, thanks mate I will definitely give you a shout if I don't get anyone local. Your only up the road aren't you?, Essex way?
Does anyway know the guy that supplies the interior LED kit? Think his name was Matt? I bought off him nearly 3 years ago for my first eddy..

Never really considered it before, but I quite like the colour coded wheels to wing mirror combo SurreyED30 :happy2:

Hi all
Between owning my first edition 30 and this one I also had a MK4 R32 for a few months so I thought I would share it with you guys, I am quite into detailing now and have a rather large amount of products etc I bought this and Made a cheeky £1,350 on it by just detailing it and fitting GT100 miltek tips to the old style rear silencer :innocent: . The story with the R32 was I didn’t like it nor did the misses so I sold it, was worth buying one though as the V6 sound is something else :P…

Welcome back to a mk5 Jake :happy2:
Already starting back down the slippery slope :signLOL:
Dave

i'll try my hardest to stay at the top of the slope :P :innocent:
have you still got the S3?
-
Good job on the r32! How come you didn't like it?

i'll try my hardest to stay at the top of the slope :P :innocent:

Yeah still got my S3 :driver:
Not sure what I'd done to it last time u saw it but still a lot of fun
-

It felt very heavy to drive and generally quite a heavy car round the B roads which I didn't enjoy. My girlfriend constantly moaned about the colour and how big it was to drive so it went.
-

Yeah still got my S3 :driver:
Not sure what I'd done to it last time u saw it but still a lot of fun
It's was 2+ with a Aston Martin BBK with the td wheels and bilsteins.
Don't really remember it clearly, remember it was a lovely car and 1 of only a few sportback 3 dr dsg?
It's been 2 years with no boost :ashamed:
-
Its r tech stage2+ now instead of revo and dsg mapped too :driver:
astons still on but changed from tds to oz ultras
Still a lot of fun to drive and stupid quick
2 years without boost sounds like torture :scared:
Dave
-
Nice man sounds a great car, I can't wait to start playing with this one, will be going to Rtech as well this time and not revo. 2 years of sh*t has finally paid off haha
is there any forum meets this year ? Be good to catch up
-
Done a few bits on the eddy today, apologise for the dirty bay, still haven't detailed the car yet either :ashamed:
Fitted new ngk 7 iridiums along with R8 coilpacks
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjakebraham%2FMobile_Uploads%2Fimage_zpsebrnxrau.jpeg&hash=650190c7fc7549094f20d627a2203b75fbacc04a)
You'll notice I removed the oil filler neck as well as I personally think they look stupid once a cai is fitted.
I then tackled the cam follower, easy job took about 15 minutes.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjakebraham%2FMobile_Uploads%2Fimage_zpsyeqe6l1p.jpeg&hash=4898c9de4219c4becd146c88ffc5a48c94f44230)
Fitted a new oring, glad I did as when removing my original it broke into 6 pieces.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjakebraham%2FMobile_Uploads%2Fimage_zpsgasahrw0.jpeg&hash=8ce2a604d42f282933253244dd2edeaf24c8e25f)
The wear on the original follower

I didn't take pictures but I also wet sanded and polished the headlights back to new along with the exhaust tips which aren't perfect but much much better. Fitted some PIAA Xtreme bulbs, highly recommend them, bit pricey at over £50+ for halogens but phenomenal light output and a nice 4K colour
Really enjoying the new eddy and I can't till after Xmas for some mods
rolled over the 50k milestone last night

Nice work :happy2: not the worst cam follower I've seen but defo needed doing
Welcome to the over 50k club :drinking:
What other things you got planned for this one then?
Dave
-
Yeah it was a bit worn and had never been changed, £30 for piece of mind isn't worth avoiding.
I want to get a few bits done before Xmas:
front and rear anti roll bars
Super pro anti lift kit
Dog bone mount
new ferodo pads
Hel lines
then work my way up to stage 2+ after Xmas
-
i remember your old one from one of the lakeside meets. Were you the guy that had the motorcycle crash and ended up in hospital?
-
Wasn't me bud, can't remember who it was that had the accident.
Still miss my first edition 30, it got wrote off within 5 months of me selling it, I remember marvin (MVB12) messaging me the auction for wrote of cars for sale :( seen it on swaps.com and eBay a few times now, advertised with very little info about the mods and history of the car etc so probably got a numpty new owner
-
I want to get a few bits done before Xmas:
front and rear anti roll bars
Just a word of warning on the front Anti Roll Bar.
Myself and a friend of mine (who's a mechanic) had a massive ball ache with the front Anti Roll Bar recently.
We were just wanting to change the bushes and not the whole bar. We watched the ECS tuning video YouTube and figured it looked a handy enough job.....
Holy sh*t.....
It was a mare....
We had to drop the subframe completely (rather than just let it down an inch or 2 as per the ECS video). Then we realised the bushes are fixed to the Bar as VW obviously want you to buy the bushes and bar as a single unit. We had to chop the nuts off thr original bar. Etc etc etc
It was painful. We finished up at 5am having started at 5pm....
Anyways.... Just a word of warning. I'm still pretty convinced we must have done something wrong as there is just no way changing the bar, or even just the bushes, should be so hard.
To top it all off my subframe now creaks like a bitch because we obviously "over stretched" the stretch bolts......
(Reading back on this; maybe myself and my friend are just idiots   and you'll get it done easy enough  :happy2:)
Anybody else on here with an experience of "front anti roll bar ball ache syndrome"?? :rolleye: :rolleye:

Hi All
Back from holiday now, noticed I forgot to upload the mini detail/clean I did the day before I went.
I Gave the car my deep clean/detail:
I always start with the wheels:
Wheels sprayed with bilberry wheel cleaner and agitated with wheel woolies
Wheels deironed/detarred and rinsed down
Wheels only needed a light clay bar running over them
Resealed up with poorboys wheel sealant
Tyres were sprayed with meguiars APC and scrubbed with a stiff brush
Poor boys natural dressing on the tyres
Onto the cars paint:
Rinse with jet wash
Citrus pre wash via pump sprayer
Rinse with jet wash
Snow foam left for around 10 minutes
Rinse with jet wash
2 bucket method wash with dodo juice products
Rinse with jet wash
Air dried the tight areas then pat dried with a mammoth drying towel
Gyeon Iron fallout remover
Rinsed down
Gyeon tar remover
Rinsed down
Clayed the car fine clay and dodo clay lube
Rewashed with dodo juice again
Dried the car again
The paint only needs a very slight detail as theres hardly any swirls in the paint so for now I cheated and used poorboys black hole as I didn’t have the whole day to detail the car with my DA
I sealed the car up with 2 coats of Poorboys Nattys blue paste wax, great stuff and very easy to apply/remove from the paint.
Glass sealed up with CG Jetseal 109 and RainX on the windscreen
Interior was cleaned with meguiars APC and brushed
Wiped down with a very small dialution of IPA to get the last of the sticky of
Dressed with Poorboys natural look dressing
Carpet and seat inserts where wet vaxed and protected with CG fabric guard
I will give the car a full detail at my work unit before the winter comes, this was a few hours work before the car was left for a week on the drive and to tie me over until I get a full free weekend to get the car on axle stands a spend 2 days going over it.
Few snaps a took during the mini detail
Homemade sunshade lol

I didnt dress the exterior rubbers and plastics or the engine bay as i ran out of time and the heat got a bit to much so when I do the winter detail I will give it the full monty 15+ hours treatment. I will upload pictures of that detail when it gets done.

Looking forward to seeing your winter prep regime. I might try and follow your lead :happy2:
Quick question;
You mentioned you air dry the crevices on the car. I would love to do this too. But I've been put off by the cost of an air compressor or detailers drying machine.
What do you use to air dry your car??

I thought the same bud, the dryers on cleanyourcar are around £200+. I use a pet/animal dryer for a third of the cost and pritty much the same power/force :happy2: I also use a leaf blower for the majority of the car then pat dry the rest with a towel. Leaf blower only used when at her parents as her dads a gardener and has a good quality stihl one which is powerful

Top effort! Very nice looking ED30 and a good eye for detail :)
Well done!

Thank you mate, glad to see all your waiting paid off with yours, still miss my black eddy .. I'll keep up to date with your build thread bud

Had a few bits done lately at VDS Performance in Redhill, some you down my way will have heard of TC Garage (who built my black eddy). James the master tech there left and set up his own workshop/company VDS Performance, I'd recommend anyone in the south east to give James a visit His attention to detail and knowledge is superb.
he carried out for me
oe oil filter
millers nanodrive engine oil
miller transmission fluid
cam belt
tensiors
water pump
aux belt
anti freeze
full car insection
car sounds less noisey now engine wise with the new oil and the millers gearbox oil gives a great feel to shifting now.
fitted Matts full LED bulb kit the other week

Nothing exciting to report unfortunately, I gave the eddy a wash this morning as I couldn't not wash it until my detail weekend over the Xmas holidays. she started to look very filthy and unloved and I just couldn't bring myself to leave it until December :ashamed: I'm still trying to decide if I want the standard air box back on as the revo cai does sound a little bit chavy and dumps a little to much? Maybe an exhaust would hide the intake sound a little?

Winter detail will still happen as there's 2 small bird poo etches in the paint now that seriously irritate me. I was away for 2 weeks and obviously couldn't remove the poo while is was fresh LOL.
-
Good to see an ed30 looked after like this. I really should get some correction done on mine, it looks great until I get up close and then the swirls are obvious. If I can get mine looking anything like yours I'll be happy.
You've still not got a proper ed30 rear on it though! Get that sorted and you'll easily sell the painted GTI rear. I'm just nitpicking though... it's a beaut.
-
I'm not normally a fan of red cars but the black wheels/badges really set this one off. Lovely. :happy2:
-
Thanks guys :happy2:
I will be getting an eddy rear bumper as soon as a decent condition one comes up within 50 miles of my house. I drove to Essex to buy one and it was a mess, but described as flawless condition, fit and forget, no work required !

I'm new to this Golf stuff, I thought the ED30 bumpers were just colour coded? What's the other differences compared to a standard GTI one?

the eddy rear lower half is different compared to the plain gti rear.
thanks for everyone's kind words
eddy rear, more aggressive

Couple snaps from removing the Revo and fitting the standard air box. Didn't take many as it was a oily job.
Like the doughnut I can be, I removed the oil filler neck off my rocker cover to neaten up the bay a bit with the intake then 2 months later decided I wanted the standard air box back on. Luckily @DANBOY66 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=8622) had a rocker cover laying around in his workshop so a few Pm's later I had a replacement at home ready to fit along with the standard air box.
The rear PCV hose was a sh*tBag to remove but after a few kind words and 2 "count to 10 and breathe" it came off
The intake snorkel is a little bit battered so I'll get a cheap one from eBay soon as it looks a bit poo

Which ebiach springs is this on? I'm a coilover man at heart but this is sat really well and slowly convincing me to go for springs instead.

Hi Matt
There the sport line version (red springs -30mm)
I'm normally a coilover guy but my drive isn't done yet so going up the Kurb at the moment but as soon as the drives done I'll get Coilovers

Black and red always work so well together!

Thanks Man :happy2:

Notice any difference when you put the standard air box back on?
-
Not to much mate, I know CAI obviously help with flow but its not a 50HP mod, so I haven't noticed any decline in power.
The terrible hoover like noise has gone! which was my main objective with refitting the oem set up.
There's a few cars running stage 1/2/2+ with the oem set up so its not vital to have a CAI fitted for tuning, of course it will help with flow and chasing numbers...
I'm sure someone will correct me and say a CAI is the most vital part of the TFSI as without it your tuned car will explode and the world will end
-
From experience, if you want top end power then you're better off with a cold air intake system but for road use the OE setup will do just fine, keeps the torque low down good. That being said, I went through 4 different intakes (OE, Evoms, VW Racing and RamAir) and I have to say the RamAir Oversized K04 intake is surprisingly good especially as it's the cheapest. Being a chav I like the intake noise but I can understand why many would opt for the quieter OE system. If you do decide you need an intake in the future but want a quiet engine then look at one of the enclosed ones, but I'd personally avoid the VW Racing one as I felt it rather lacking compared to the Evoms or RamAir intake.

Not surprised to hear it tbh! I've got a RamAir on mine as I needed something quick and cheap but i've got alerts set up on eBay as in the long run i'd probably go back to OE. I'm quite surprised all the filter on a stick options are so popular in the TFSI scene to be honest, none of them look like a great solution for getting cold air into the engine.

I'm surprised as it looks like one of the better solutions with the enclosed cold air feed etc.

Will do mate, how you getting on with the Gti?
-
Yeap you're car will definitely spontaneously combust without a CAI....you've been warned
-
I'm not saying it's a bad intake, I just noticed more torque in the lower revs when I switched from the VW Racing intake to my oversized RamAir kit. It's pretty much a personal thing like with most mods, I also prefer the look and sound of an open filter type intake that sits in the gap in front of the battery. Fill the engine bay more...

Hi all
happy new year :pomppomp:
Not an exciting update, yet...
I ordered some more detailing goodies so that i can finally detail my eddy this weekend. I had ran quite low on some essential bits so i needed to replace them before i could detail my own car. (its in dieing need as ive washed the car 3 times since August :sad1:)
I will be spending all day Saturday and Sunday getting my eddy lookings it best, As i am girlfriend free from Thursday night till Sunday evening, perfect time to detail  ! actually looking forward to getting all my gear out and hitting the car :jumping:
I have always wanted to try the Menzerna power lock sealant and collinite combo after watching many of obsessed garages videos on Youtube, hopefully it works just as well for me as it does for him
I will update this thread on sunday evening/monday morning with the detail pictures, warning! it will be a long post! :drinking:
I will have my spacers for sale after this weekend if any one wants them

Have you got any recommendations for YouTube videos on detailing? I could do with starting simple and building up my knowledge and experience that way. I'd love to be able to achieve great results!

There's plenty of channels for detailing, if your after tips then Mike Phillips (ex Meguiars) has a great amount of videos when hes doing product reviews etc
I personally watch Obsessed garage and also Ammo NYC channels. Not necessarily for learning but just generally because i like there videos and ideas, There videos are quite lengthy but a good watch :happy2:
If you have a good tolerance for irritating voices watch Car cleaning Guru, I dont really enjoy his videos to be honest!
Chemical Guys are in my opinion a bunch of helmets! they seem to just slightly tweak and existing product and call it "brand new, next best thing blah blah blah" and the guys personality and voice make me angry .... I do use Jet seal 109 on my glass though :ashamed:
In all honest you really teach yourself how to detail, once youve done a few cars you get to know what works and what doesn't. Arm speed, pressure and all them factors is also down to the individual and the job in hand . There's no rule that a inch per second with 10lbs of pressure will correct every single car. Trial and error is the best way to learn to be honest. Use what products, pads, towels work best for you on your car, reading something online doesn't mean that pad and product will correct your own car.
Its a very addictive hobby and will take a nice chunk out of your pocket too! but the finish is rewarding when youve completed a detail.
Jedi-Knight83 is a pro-detailer on here, he might help you with some questions you may have too :happy2:

Cheers dude. I've got some bits and bobs; Poorboy's black hole, some microfibre cloths and things so like you say maybe it's just trial and error. I'll YouTube some of your suggestions for any tips whilst the missus watches crap on the telly :D

the Poorboys BH is quite a good product, Ive currently got it on my car under a few layers of poorboy paste wax to tie me over till this weekend
That's what i do most evenings, in fact i'd rather watch a chemical guys video than watch emmerdale or strictly factor ice dancing in the jungle or what ever the sh*t is that she watches! if its on the tele and has no purpose my missus will watch it for sure :rolleye:

Looking forward to seeing your pics after the detailing mate, was always impressed with the results you used to get on your type r after hitting it with the DA so I'm sure the golf will be as good!
Have you used the Gyeon stuff before? heard good things about there stuff. And what's the citrus pre wash like out of interest?

Mine needs a new manifold which garage I purchased from are sorting out. Also having front wings replaced by VW soon, Bloody rust issue.
As for detailing chanels have a look at Forensic Detailing Channel. He has the obbsessive behaviour I think alot of us into detailing have!

Thanks Martin, the civic was a pest to detail due to the butter like paint and marring! Came up nice though. I always read your updates as I think your eddy is one of the best on the forum in my honest opinion (not ass licking genuine comment)
I've used Gyeon tar and iron before on my eddy back In August, it's really effective and the tar was really good but I wouldn't say it's twice as good as say carpro's iron X, as they all do the same thing pritty damn well. I would definitely try gyeon's other products though for sure :happy2:
I'm hoping the fog and dampness stays on my side this weekend, it's currently raining in Surrey so I'm hoping that'll pass by the morning too.
I've used citrus pre wash via pump sprayer and even in my foam lance for maybe the last 2 years and I wouldn't wash a car without it now, seriously!
I always do the following
Citrus Pre wash left to dwell
Jet rinse off
Snow foam
Agitate areas like lights, shuts and grills
Jet rinsed again
Then a further blanket of foam before washing (2BM) really helps with washing and reducing swirls and unwanted defects.
Citrus pre wash really does cut through grime and all the grud that comes off the road.
£18 for 5L is well worth the extra step in pre wash :happy2:

Yeah I always found that with my civic, nighthawk black was the worst for it too, like you say always looked great when putting the effort in though. Cheers mate really appreciate that, hoping this year I'll be able to get a lot done when it comes to detailing & modding too!
Yeah I do hear about the car pro iron x being a favourite too! Just bought some of the valet pro dragons breath which apparently is really good stuff so will let you know how I get on with it (unless you have tried it already that is) i might give the gyeon sealant a go when I've sorted the paint out then.
That's the most annoying thing when you have everything you need but the good old British weather won't let you! Fingers crossed it clears up for you mate!
Nice one I think I might have to get myself some citrus pre wash then, just got 5l of bilt hamber auto foam so using both in that order you said should help get a lot of the crap off before taking a mitt to the car, bargain at £18 too! Thanks for the info, it's a big help :)

Morning all
As you know I wanted to detail my edition 30 this weekend, here is a short write up with lots of pictures. I didn’t manage to do the interior like I wanted to and I also didn’t get to do the underneath, arches, suspension etc due to daylight hours and with rainy patches during the weekend!
I will get the car up on stands around March time when there’s a little more light hours and also (hopefully) dryer weather!
The car doesn’t seem to be too dirty in these photos mainly because it’s a sh*te iPhone taking the pictures and also because it rained the night before so muck isn’t dry which makes the car look grey lol I also washed the car a few weeks before Christmas and I’ve hardly drove the car.
I started the day with the engine bay, isnt a 100% effort job due to time but will do until the summer

Wheels were then rinsed and I moved onto the prewash stages of the detail, starting with Citrus prewash via pump spray mixed at 1:6 left to dwell for 5 minutes while I agitated the close and awkward areas with a soft brush

I jet washed the car down to remove the pre wash and also as much loose/soft muck as I could.
It was now time to foam the beauty up, product of choice was valet pro Ph neutral snow foam, again I mixed this quite strong at 1:2 and let it sit for about 10 minutes as the weather was cold

I rinsed the car off briefly ad gave her a well deserved wash! I use my usually dodojuice Purple born to be mild shampoo along with 2 lambs wool wash mitts, 1 for the top half of the car and the other for the lower half areas.

I didn’t take many pictures as I got fed up with dropping my phone and also covering it suds etc
It was time for a cuppa and then onto the decontamination stages of the detail, Gyeon iron and tar applies and left for 5 minutes each before being jet washed off. I then clayed the car using a weak quick detailer and water mix.

I couldn’t capture any 50/50 on the paint as there was no sun and also I had no torch. The swirling was so light and mainly on the lower half of the car were its had a rough wash at some point.
I did add a lot of gloss to the paint though! I rinsed the car to remove dust from the tight gaps and the scuttle area and was left with lovely beading paintwork :P
before I applied the LSP I wiped car down again with IPA and also dressed the plastics and rubber areas inc the tyres. ( I normally do this will the wax is curing but the toilet was calling! ) I also quickly hoovered out the interior. I didn’t get time to detail the interior due to light but I will do it this month !

My finishing products were Menzerna power lock sealant and Collinite 476s double coat wax.
I applied the Power Lock via DA with a black menzerna finishing pad and speed 2, I done a few passes to work the sealant into the paint and left it to haze over. I had applied the collinite with a foam applicator pad following the contours of the panels. As always the last step products were applied evenly and thin layers for a perfect finish and easy on and off use.

much better, its a shame the MK5 rear VW boot badges are like hens teeth! I cant be bothered with pissing about with mk4/6 badges before there mentioned :P

That looks really really great. I never thought I'd get in to 'detailing' but am slowly becoming obsessed. Can appreciate what a great job you've done there!

Thank you for your kind words, Detailing takes a lot of time as you will know to do a full detail undercarriage, innterior, exterior and engine bay will take 20+ hours at least! I think i did well in the 13 hours i spent on the car.
stunning mate, just, stunning.
Thanks mate :happy2:

Thanks Andy, I used PoorBoys natural look dressing :happy2: i like it because its not greasy or really shiny. I use the same product but diluted on my interior, although i didn't do it this time round lol

Thank you Martin, I cant wait until the interior is all done properly now, then it will be complete :pomppomp:
As soon as my driveway is done I will be able to wash it weekly at least  (end of this month)
By far the cleanest and nicest looking car on this forum IMO.

Thank you very much mate! dont know what to say
Im defiantly thinking of changing my mind with the cars direction, I'm now thinking a nice set of fancy wheels and some coilovers and just keep it clean all the time rather than tracking it.
I'd love to do the interior properly with alcantara and a nice audio set up
I might start doing a few forum members cars when the weather picks up :happy2:

Wow

great to see the love gone into detailing this
Sweet as mate

Great work there Jake.
Can't beat a glossy Red Ed30 :innocent: :happy2:

New wheels and coilovers you say?.....

Wow. Looks like @bonelorry has some competition in the detailing stakes.
If you do decide to work on a few forum cars I'm sure you'll have plenty of requests. Shame I'm up north!
I'll be interested to hear which coilies you go for too. I'm kind of at that point myself - I rarely drive it hard and I'd like to get it sitting a bit better than it does on H&R springs.

I've defiantly fell in love with the car again after my wobbler before Christmas.
I will probably go with either AP/ST/H&R coilovers, not fussed about spending £1,000+ on fully adjustable track orientated coilovers as I will probably never track it....perhaps a cheaper dedicated track car is on the way!?
I would happily detail forum members cars when the weather picks up :happy2:

Really good results, car looks really neat. I like the black and red colour combo you have going on as well

Yep, those coilovers are what I'm looking at myself. I'll maybe rule out AP as they apparently don't go as low as KW or ST. ST aren't that much cheaper than KW these days. When Weitec were what ST are now there was a bigger price gap. So the idea of having stainless bodies (KW) for a little more than ST makes sense to me. I'm hoping to hold on to the car for a good few years so longevity is important.
KW usually have a sale around April that lasts until June. Last year V1s were 600 odd quid. Everything I've read about V1s sounds right for me - decent drop and a nice ride. They might be valved a little on the soft side for track use, but like you I'm not taking the car in that direction, so they sound ideal.
I had Weitecs on a mk4 and they were a decent ride even all the way down. Better than a Koni shock and spring kit I had on before in fact. I expect the same or better from V1s on the mk5!
If I'm ever down south and you're doing detailing I'll give you a shout

Stunning and in the best colour

makes me a little ashamed about my Eddy lol I know what u mean about MK5 badges I gave up and went for a MK6 gloss with inserts think it sets the back end off nicely (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170111/646c76e310ac216f3cd9644112d76439.jpg)

Really good results, car looks really neat. I like the black and red colour combo you have going on as well
Thank you mate, I am not so sure on the red/black combo any more, I will be going down the oem route now i think :happy2:
Stunning and in the best colour
makes me a little ashamed about my Eddy lol I know what u mean about MK5 badges I gave up and went for a MK6 gloss with inserts think it sets the back end off nicely (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170111/646c76e310ac216f3cd9644112d76439.jpg)
Will be watching this with interest great write up

Afternoon all
Went for a 400 mile round trip to see family last weekend a terrible rattle appeared. It turned out to be the rear disc dust shield had came loose, great!
I remember this happening on my first eddy and it was quick tin snip repair :ashamed: this time round I thought I'd cure the problem the correct way, replace it for a new one :happy2:
I did buy both sides as I planned to replace the n/s while it's all jacked up and the tools were out and before it breaks! but as the o/s took 2 hours I thought sod the n/s till it isn't snowing and the weather is a bit warmer.
It was a pleasure to work on a non seized non rusted car for a change! (Everything is covered with mud as I haven't cleaned it yet) Everything came undone easily except the wheel bearing bolt which took 14 stone of weight on a bar and whacking the M18 multispline socket with a hammer to shock the thread, damn that thing was tight! All the bolt threads were like new, couldn't be happier with a easy to work on car :innocent:
Tools used:
Trolley jack
Axle stands
17mm socket - wheel bolts
18mm socket - rear lower arm
15mm spanner - slider pin nut
13mm spanner - caliper bolt
T30 Torx bit - disc retainer and shield bolts
M14 multispline - carrier bolts
M18 multispline - wheel bearing
Flat head screwdriver - bearing dust cover
Bungee cord - hold caliper up
Halogen light - crap lighting in the carport
Old sofa cushion - nothing worse than kneeling on a stone !
Started off by loosening the wheel bolts then jacked the car up and secured it on axle stands.

Disc, pads and carrier removed left a loose shield ! To get the carrier off I removed the rear spring to give me more room to get a decent size bar in to break the carrier bolts free.

The worse bit of the job was breaking this f*ck*r free and praying the bearing hasn't bonded to the shaft, luckily mine came off freely and in 1 piece. I applied more grease to the bearing before refitting.

I cleaned up all the bolts quickly with the machine wheel and also used loctite 222 red thread lock on all the threads. All the torque specs can be found online and also all the how to guides for removing everything to do this job is easily available online.
Don't be put off with the rear carrier bolts, lots a swearing and some Strength will cracking it loose :happy2:
I will need new pads in the next maybe 3,000 miles so I'll do a quick write up of that when I do them as well. I'll clean and detail the arches and compents at the same time too, not much point now to be honest. I don't drive the car if the roads are icey/gritted anyway so no salt gets to the car really.
You'll notice my private plate is now on too :)
If anyone local wants to borrow the multisplines or needs a hand I am more than happy to help and wouldn't take a penny off anyone for lending a hand.

Hi all
Took my car out for its Sunday more B road bash and I rolled over another milestone so thought I'd share it. 55,000 miles on the clock now so still a baby compared to most mk5's. I have definitely fell in love with the car again, especially lately as I haven't been using the car at all because my partner is away so I use her 1.6 Mini Cooper for my daily commute. £35 for a full tank of fuel that doesn't seem to ever go down is defo a winner over the GTi. I have drove the GTi twice since the end of January and both times have been really enjoyable, however, I was playing with a new shape Astra vxr gtc this morning and although I would pull a few car lengths on the straights his braking was a lot better and later than mine. I think they come with 4 piston brembo calipers up front and he possible has updated pads as the car looked and sounded modified, so it's no doubt he was better at braking than my terrible GTi set up. I will now be looking to invest in a full R32/S3 front and rear set up with fast road pads, lines and fluid may even look into rs3 brembo with 340 tts discs. I did start to loose faith in the GTi brakes after 30-40 minutes and started to back off a lot earlier when approaching corners. 18 mpg after 54 minutes of B road thrashing definitely is a middle finger to the mpg lovers on the forum
So next up is definitely
Front and rear brake set
Coilovers
Anti roll bars
Anti lift kit
Engine mounts
Semi slicks
That list will most probably do me for the year, I am possibly starting a new job this month so will have quite bit more wonga in my back pocket and also my mileage will be 1.8 miles per day so I won't be using the car during the week and only at the weekends. So I may strip the car as well but we'll see what happens.
Jake :happy2:

Nice car man, need to decide what is the best brake upgrade for standard eddy wheels on mine.
-
thanks mate, most set ups fit with or without a spacer, i think TTRS and AKS BBK need a spacer but oe upgrades are a straight fit

Went through my pictures of my old eddy on my photo bucket account this afternoon and picked a few nice photos to share with you all. I spent a lot! Of money, time and effort getting this from complete stock to where it was when I sold it back in 2014.

A few of you seen this at meets and when meeting up to buy stuff. Miss this car so much, sold it and it got wrote off within 5 months which was kinda heart breaking when MVB sent me the auction site link with the damaged pics!. Wonder where it is now…

Morning all
I had to replace the N/S rear brake disc dust shield this weekend as it started to rub against the disc just like the O/S did 6 weeks ago. I’m glad I picked up both sides at the time so I was able to fit it Saturday morning without waiting for parts to come in to my local TPS.
This time round it only took just over an hour as I had figured out the easy way of doing it from the last time, however this time I removed the lower bolt from the damper to get the ratchet in at a better angle and I also used a scaffold pole for breaking the wheel bearing bolt rather than jumping on a bar like I did last time. Freed the bolt first attempt so was very pleased and saved a lot of time.
I also removed the GTI badge from the boot and replaced it with a MK6 one as it looks better with the edition30 badge

Hey man
im doing 30 miles a day for work and now i have the house i never get time to enjoy the car, ive probably had 3 fun Sunday morning drives in the 9 months ive had it. Now Natalie is working in Florida 4 weeks on 1 week off between feb-july im using her car for my daily commuting, So its basically sat on the drive doing nothing. I could do with recouping some money back now as we done our figures and in the last 12 months, the house purchase deposit/refurbishment/driveway/Golf purchase has cost us just over £67k! were currently doing our back garden/decking/landscape main feature so that's more money gone. If im not using the golf i might as well sell it to get some money back in the bank because after the gardens done were fairly low on funds which isn't a nice feeling.
To be honest its just a car to me in all honesty, I dont have the same craving for modifying and serious obsession i had with my last one and also I would like a coupe now as I've only ever had hatchbacks in the 8 years ive been driving. trying to convince my mum to give me her car for free
I'm in no rush to sell it so it wont go to "offers" for a while, ill hold on to my price.
-
Gave the golf it's first clean for a while today, came up lovely. I also done a few little jobs that I've been meaning to do for a while now.
I removed the wrap that was on the lower rear bumper to leave the textured black oem look. I didn't like the wrap because it had a full patch that always caught my eye. I'm much happier with the oem look of it now :happy2:
I also removed and refurbished my rear badge, it isn't oem looking but a better look than the chipped black and terrible carbon inlays that was there before. It's a anthracite backing plate and a silver vw badge, both were done by rattle can so not a perfect finish but I'm happy with the results.
I replaced the chrome GTI boot badge for a nice mk6 red inlay item, suits the boot better with the edition30 badge that is the same design.
I also gave the exhaust tips another hit with some wire wool and autosol, came up nice but again there is some small stained bits which aren't noticeable unless you look up close but it's enough for me to be slightly bothered by as of course I'd love perfect clean tips.
Very pleased overall with a what a days work can do (I did the badge over a week to ensure the paint/lacquer had hardened)

I know mate I normally use meguiars apc and a low pile microfibre towel but I couldn't be bothered yesterday lol by the time I'd packed away it was " dinners nearly cold " so I'll do it next time. I'll need to redo the tyre shine and also the engine bay needs a quick wipe down next time too! It was nice to get 3-4 hours spare to wash the car for a change, I did actually enjoy getting stuck in to a good clean again, haven't done for months now

I know James very well he's a good friend. Top garage and he deals with loads of tuned tfsi stuff and he knows it all very well! :happy2:
Burbs do you know how much hour rate is for vrs is james the boss
thanks in advance pete
-
It is James's business, I'm sure his rates are on his website.
Probably worth calling him for a better idea on costs and labour for the work you want done

My eddy passed her MOT today :pomppomp:
It also had a full aircon service with a pressure sensor replacement as the old one was leaking, everything is working now and I have lovely ice cold aircon again
Hopefully someone will view and take her away soon and give them the same amount of enjoyment this car has given me :happy2:

Hi all
I haven't done anything with the golf in all honesty other than clean it.
However I carried out a detail on a 2013 Ford Focus this weekend so thought I would share it with you all for something for you to look at whilst your bored at work or later on when the other half is watching soaps :P
The car was in bad shape with bad swirl marks, scratches, a few repainted panels and some dodge paint touch ups. Wasn’t ideal working in the direct sunlight but I done the panels in the shade then moved the car under some tress for more shade, I didn’t have to wait long for the exposed panels to cool down in honestly so it wasn’t a huge pain.
I didn't take a million pictures of every mark on the car or every step of the way because I only had phone and I was pushed for time/day light but I do wish I took some of the key scratch marks around the driver’s door handle and the top of the rear bumper as it was around 90% corrected which I was mega chuffed with but never mind I'll get another bad shape car again.
Few starting pictures

Started the day with the usual 6:1 citrus pre wash soaking for a about 5-10 minutes then a thick coat of snow foam. Whilst the foam done its thing I went round all the small gaps and crevasses on the car with meguiars APC 8:1 and a soft detailing brush. I cleaned the wheels with normal wash solution as they were refurbished in April so didn’t feel the need to go all out on them. Cleaned the tyres and wheel arches with a stiff brush and Meguiars APC and degreaser. I jetted off the foam and then washed the car with the 2 bucket method and meguiars hyper wash with 2 wash mitts. Probably shouldn't have bothered with the 2 bucket jobs as I was correcting the paint anyway but it's just habit n all.

I jetted the car down thoroughly and then went round the whole car with meguiars last touch diluted at 1:1 and carpro medium yellow clay bar. I done the glass and all the paintwork and it was quite contaminated as you can see. I sprayed the car with Gyeon Iron and Tar before re foaming the car and thoroughly jetting it down once more

The next step is by the worst for me which is taping the car up so I don't get any residues from compounding into the rubber and plastic trims, hate this job but saves a lot of cleaning up afterwards.

I tried a few compounds and pads and settled with lake country hydro tech blue pad and meguiars 105 for cutting and followed up with lake country orange pad and meguiars 205 for polishing, all done with a Rupes lhr15es mk 2. After this was done I foamed the car to remove the dust, air dried/towel dried the car then wiped down with IPA. I was happy enough with the results so didn't bother with any glazes and called it a day for correction there.
Few during correction shots, 50/50’s

Before I packed away for the night I cracked on with applying my favourite sealant, menzerna power lock ! via a chemical guys red hexlogic pad. I left this for about an hour before buffing it off to lovely finish and tucking the car away in the car port for the night.
Power lock is in all honesty the best sealant I have used and a few friends now also use this after they've seen my work with it. I followed this up the next morning with 2 thin layers of collinite 476 wax :P best sealant/wax combo for me at the moment I have no issues with its durability or visual appearance. while the wax was curing I cleaned all the trim and coated it with poor boys natural look dressing, buffed to a nice finish and I sealed the glass with chemical guys jet seal 109 on all the glass apart from the windscreen and treated the windscreen to 3 coats of rain x. Quickly hoovered the interior and wiped the plastics etc. down with a week meguiars apc dilution.
After the sealant was removed, bad iphone pictures but over cast weather so can’t do much about it

Unfortunately I have no pictures after the first day/the removal of the powerlock sealant but the weather was overcast anyway and also I was more looking forward to sitting in the garden with beers Sunday afternoon than taking more pictures, my back and knees were knackered after a mammoth 21 hour’s work but well worth it in the end and a very happy lady focus owner.
I'll upload when next detail whenever it happens :)

Great little read and awesome work as usual

Wow. Good work on the focus. I really like the ed30 and wouldn't mind having a look at it at some point if you're still set on selling. I'm pretty new on here but haven't enough posts to post on your advert. Also I need to have a good look through your build thread! I'm over in Kent and have used James in the past too :happy2:
