Title: Just saying Hi
Post by: BigO_2.0Tdi on August 22, 2016, 12:54:34 pm
Hi guys

I just wanted to say hello to the group. After many years of owning a mk4 gti I have decided to change to. Mk 5 Gt 140 .  I love the car but I'm now already thinking what I can do to it. Think my first call is a remap. The main problem I have is the air con doesn't work. The econ light comes on but no cold air.

Welcome to the site. Plenty on here used to own mk4s (me included) and lots from the old forums seem to be on here too.

If you're serious about tuning look up Darkside Developments. Based in Barnsley and experts in turbo upgrades for diesel VWs.

Most of the handling and braking mods apply to the GT just as they do to the GTI, so there's loads of info on here for you to read up on.

Let us know your plans, and get some pics up

Hi there!

In response to your air con issue, just wanted to point out that the "Econ" button actually turns the air conditioning OFF. Took me a while to realise, think of it as "economy", as in saving power, so air con is disengaged.

Econ light off = air con on
Econ light on = air con off

Just had the air conditioning in my mk5 gti fixed. Turned out to be the all too common compressor issue. Not a cheap fix, but from doing some reading it's quite a bit cheaper to get done now than it was 5 years ago.

Hope you get yours sorted :)

Thanks guys, I want to keep her pretty original but I am thinking about changing the grille any ideas on what looks best. Also thinking about a turbo and inter cooler change too.
