Title: Hello & Help
Post by: dazwatson on January 20, 2010, 11:47:24 am
Hi,

I firstly would like to introduce myself, as you've probably worked out from my username i'm called Daz.

Bought my 55 plate Tornado Red GTi 2 months ago absolutely love it, big into Vw's got a 1982 T25 camper, big into the whole club camping thing.

BUT.... the old Golf has been a bit of trouble, I picked the car up from the dealer, not VW but a very respectable dealer, after 2 days the engine management light came on, to cut a long story short they ended up replacing the cat after about 2 weeks of running backwards and forwards and a lot of phone calls.

The 2 months warranty they gave me is now up, just been out this morning and the car seems ok pulling off and accelarating, gave it a blast along a dual carriageway, got the 70mph warning, put my foot down in sixth and the car dies, doesn't cut out but is abslotulely flat and won't pull anymore.

I backed off the gas & it returns to normal.
Can anyone give me some advice.
Heres a piccy

Welcome Daz!  :drinking:

Just edited your post as I'm sure you don't want any trouble from the boys in blue!

Could be a number of things tbh mate. If your local to with someone with VAGCOM they may be able to diagnose the fault, failing that a main agent should charge no more than around £30 to diagnose.  :happy2:

worth having a warranty then if your ride has ghosts, i can recommend warrantydirect if it helps, they allow dealer repairs in the policy too

You should try going back to the dealer and see what they say, maybe as a goodwill gesture they'll help you or at least diagnose it for free :happy2:

Hi,

Haven't been on for a while, will bring you up to speed of my problems.

2 months and 1 week after having the car the ' normal GTi engine rattle' got really bad, this was on top of the lack of power i was suffering with, so i took it to a local garage, they diagnosed a loose timing chain which was causing the timing to move. They advised me not to drive it incase it snapped, i was sh**ting myself by now so i rung the garage i had it from seeing as the warranty was only up by 1 week, they gave me 2 months warranty. They offered to have it in and they would look after us :pomppomp:

Anyway to cut the story short...they have now had it 5 weeks!!!!!! yes the timing chain has been done but they have now informed me that it has no oil pressure and that the sump is off and they have found another chain broken, i don't know but its seems they haven't a clue.

After lots of angry phone calls I have resorted to getting the finance company involved as it is their car until paid for in theory.
They have informed me that if it turns nasty they will confiscate the car and they will battle with the garage, hoping it won't resort to that. I can look for another car or cancel my credit agreement.

I really love this model of GTi but my heart says stick it out and get it back but should i walk away

Best to walk away if you have the chance! You'll only regret it when something else goes wrong in the future.

It's a pity, but I'd have to agree and walk away. Who's to say that the repair doesn't go wrong if you think they don't know what they are doing!!

Let them repair it as their own car and if they do it right they can always sell it at a later date. If not, then they have a lame horse for a car and not you.
