After a whirlwind few days I picked up my S3 and sold my MK5 Golf GTI. As I had dipped into the wedding fund to purchase the S3 I think my fiance was relieved to see the Golf sell so quickly! Admittedly so was I!
So here's a quick photo of the Golf which I have moved on from, I am sure some of you may be familiar with it. Car sold to the first buyer who was blown away by its condition. I was a little sad to see it go so quickly in all honesty...

And here is the S3. Completely standard as I wanted

lovely look car.
I give you 6 months before the performance come into play lol
-
Looks lovely, hows the legroom compared to a Golf? I really would love an s3 or Golf R in a few years but I need to get 3 kids in the back :sad1:
-
Looks like a nice car, love Sprint Blue!
Please don't spoil it with cheap Coil-overs though :stupid:
Its an exclusive car the S3, Not cheap to buy, The stock Chassis are excellent out of the box and can be improved but I would be going for a Bilstein or KW Coil-over kit personally if Coil-overs are what you are after.
Personally if it was my car I would probably go for a Bilstein B12 Damper and Spring Kit :happy2:
Hope it serves you well!
-
I have the same Pro Sport coilovers on my Eddy Jay and as you know they ride perfect although it's a different car to the S3 I'm sure ul be happy with the result dude

Nice upgrade. Love the S3 in that colour :happy2:

Gorgeous colour!! And I like those wheels. I'm not familiar with them  :happy2:
You're golf looked amazeballs
Well wear and enjoy :driver:

Random trivia: the flat bottomed S3 wheel is also used on the Lamborghini Gallardo.

Ha! That's class. Now just a few little tweaks here and there (maybe a tte525r) and this spirit blue S3 will out drag a Lambo too  :happy2:

Had some deliveries yesterday :jumpmove:

My Golf was probably too low considering the rather aggressive stance the ET35 wheels gave. As I am sticking with the OEM wheels on the S3 I wanted to fill the arches a little better as they are a little shy in standard guise, especially the rear wheels! Reading up it seemed 10mm front and 15mm rear were a common choice. I did however notice people seemed to have a fair bit of rubbing issues once lowered. I opted for a less extreme option of 7mm front and 13mm rear, combined with a more modest drop I am hoping I wont suffer any rubbing issues whilst improving the overall look.
I also made my first mod by removing the standard lighter and replaced it with the hinged option without the lighter. Much better in my opinion.

I have a nice pile of parts ready to go on including:
Coilovers
Spacers
Pressed Reg Plates
LED Rear Reg Lights
will update again once the car is back from Dub Unit on 06th September

Cigarette lighter looking much better :happy2:
Can't wait to see the wheels spaced out and the drop on the coilovers. Happy fitting  :happy2:
-
Where did you get that lighter bit from? Looks loads neater

I attended the Big Meet at Utoxeter racecourse on Sunday, was supposed to have the Golf on show but it had already headed up north with its new owner.
:sad1:
I didnt want to take the S3 along until I have got more of the intended work carried out so I jumped in with Trow81 instead and got papped next to his car lol.

It was the first time I had been and thought it was a cracking little show. I then headed home to apply some of the bits I still had sitting in the house.
First I applied my new pressed plates and swapped out the rather weary rear LED's

Finished the weekend off with a good wash as the car had got covered in tree sap after! :scared:

I also ordered a Chipex kit to attend to a few stone chips on the bonnet and a bottle of Poorboys Leather Stuff after reading some strong reviews.

Stunning!! That blue is just stunning!!
I noticed your golf was a 5 door and the Audi is 3. How do you find it practical wise??
I can't really go back to a 3 door for a few years yet :ashamed: :ashamed:
My little ones just make having a 3 door a total pain!!
Looking forward to when they're a bit bigger!!
Your mates red golf is cracking

I chose a 5 door GTi as my partner only had a 3 door Corsa at the time, she drives a 5 door MK6 Golf TSI these days so as she has the 'practical' car I seized the opportunity to switch back to a 3 door. Having no children helps too. The S3 is a little difficult to clamber in the back though, luckily I never really have that issue unless I am inside hoovering.
-
luckily I never really have that issue unless I am inside hoovering.
Laughing out loud at this
When our first baby was born I had a Clio 182 for 4 years. It was a massive pain in the hole to try and get her, and all her baby bits and pieces in and out of.
When our second baby was born I had to bite the bullet and get a 5 door. Bought the golf and have never looked back :happy2:
Wish I'd done it years ago :ashamed:
The golf is, in every single way, so, so much better than the Clio. It's definitely not as balls out chuckable and three wheelerish as the Clio but in every other respect it is soooo much better :happy2:
How do you find the S3 with it's four wheel drive loveliness??
If you read Evo (or similar magazines) they'll give the Audi a bit of a hard time? I'd love to get your opinion on it. As a previous GTI owner how would you rate/compare the Audi??
The reason I ask is that ideally I would love to trade up to a Mk7 Golf R in the next couple of years but I don't think realistically I will be able to afford one.....So an S3 like yours would be a much more realistic financial proposition :happy2:

It had them from factory but one had burnt out so just replaced both

Took advantage of the other half wasting her evening watching Big Brother the other week and wrapped the gear surround. Unfortunately the finish had begun to spoil and after researching thought the vinyl was worth a punt first of all as it only cost £6 from ebay. Pretty chuffed with the results and blends very well with the ashtray.

More importantly I got my suspension and spacers fitted on Tuesday. still letting it settle but may raise the rear slightly next week. I went with 13mm spacers at the back and 7mm at the front.

Been busy decorating this week and its been frustratingly difficult to get time with the car. Managed to pick a few bits up from my local dealer on Wed, nothing exciting however. Replacement tow cover as mine was pretty beaten up and the spindle lock for the spare wheel as it was oddly missing when purchasing the car.
I have a rear wiper delete to fit if I get chance this weekend. Car is booked in for a 3 stage paint correction in 2 weeks time, hoping I can start on restoring the calipers/hubs in anthracite before then.

LOVE a sprint blue s3! What I was saving for until I had enough money for an ed30 and couldn't wait any longer to have a nice car again! Haha
Any plans for power? Sounds like your going OCD on it which is great to see!
-
Loving the new stance. Spacers are perfect :happy2:
Gear surround came out very well :happy2:
-
Thanks for the comments guys. As for upping the power Thats something I might look at next year, the jump to 265 from 200 in the gti is making me smile at the moment
-
^^ yes mate. And as the weather starts to turn you'll be getting really good value out of the AWD! Good times ahead I predict :happy2:
-
S3 in the best colour nice choice, your golf looked tidy as well. What's the drive like going from front wheel drive to Quattro?
-
Dropped the S3 off last night at for a nice cosy nights sleep before it has a 3 stage paint correction over the next two days. Really excited to pick it up after work tomorrow! :jumpmove:

Picked the S3 up on Friday and I have to say I was blow away with the level Dale had achieved. I could list all the steps taken but I will just let the pictures speak for themselves...

I have been busy with the S3 over the last few weeks so think its time for an update...
Firstly I followed suit as I had done with the Golf and did away with the rear wiper thanks to 'killallwipers' I think the S3 was crying out for it even more with how angular the rear hatch is. Looks a lot smoother now.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjayzredfezz%2FS3%2F236DFC59-DA47-4E3A-B458-DF8BCFB7666B_zpsgtldkvvm.jpg&hash=478fde72ce9913fec7b17e491ea02e364104a3b0)

Next on my list was to give the calipers a much needed refurb. The fronts were not too bad but the rears and hubs were in poor state for the vehicles age. I used E-Tech high temp paint for this and opted for a matt gunmetal finish to tie in with the front and rear splitters.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjayzredfezz%2FS3%2F26FF57EA-C108-4E47-A58A-B8F0FE45CC7B_zpsgeubq1gb.jpg&hash=4b98252781c72087da5f4fdce7abc9177e85b54b)

The caliper decals came as a set of 6 oddly but I only used the 2 larger ones for the front calipers. I pondered what to do with the excess stickers and thought I would try the medium ones out on the rather plain seats. I think they look quite oem personally.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjayzredfezz%2FS3%2F7935B7BD-9ECC-4B73-8ED4-E1F15F190639_zps39hm4dir.jpg&hash=8717762c692d39f0ad361a0db64be04aa6a15534)
Nothing really planned now with the build up to Christmas. Will just be trying my best to maintain and protect the paintwork. Then will start to look at performance gains in the new year :driver:

Certainly an improvement, Nit picking but did you prepare the rear calipers before painting them?
I can still see all the flaky paint on your pictures, It looks like you have just painted directly onto the old corroded area without sanding it down first?

Looking really sharp :happy2:
Good job. I love the decals on the seats. Looks factory to me :happy2:

Thanks for the comments guys! Did my first wash since the paint correction on Saturday. Only took me 3 hours lol :stupid:
One tip I did take from the detailer though was to use Carpro Reload afterwards which contains silicon. Rain just sheets away now!

Take your reply as a yes then
Not knocking the car BTW!

Didn't see your comment sorry fella. My dremel decided to explode in the middle of cleaning the last rear caliper. Put the colour on regardless to stop it getting any worse but like a doughnut I took a photo of the crappier caliper . I will revisit it once I've replaced the dremel.

Fair play, Handy little tools dremels but the motors don't take too much punishment LOL.
Sprint Blue looks very nice! :)

Calipers look great, really need to do mine!
How many tins of paint did you require for all four? Will get some ordered. :happy2:

Little update:
I hadn't planned anymore modifications heading into Christmas but I just couldn't resist the 'urge to splurge' after a few good wins with the bookies! :pomppomp:
After mooching around ebay for an 'RS3 style' grill I had to decide which finish I wanted as there are quite a few different variations. I opted for the gloss black grill with aluminium surround. I went for this finish rather than the chrome surround as its a little less 'flash' in my opinion and I think I made the right decision.
Grill came quickly via Parcel Force and I set up camp in a corner of my companies warehouse Friday night...
As it stood

All in it took me around 3 hours at a leisurely pace with a few tea breaks to warm up as I'm used to being in the office (The warehouse was blooming freezing!)
The grill does have the removable number plate bracket, I just wanted to enjoy the grill in all its glory on the way home. Toying with the idea of a vinyl front plate under the passenger headlight.....?
Only other thing to do now is remove the RS3 badge and replace with a new S3 badge ordered. I will also remove the lower central splitter and the fog covers so I can give them a dusting of gloss black to further tie in the front grill.
Thanks for reading

Sheesh, hope you're not keeping the RS3 badge, don't be an A6/RS6 ricer. Don't be 'that guy'
Should've got the black surround, would've bounced off the Sprint blue a treat.
P.S. glad you sourced an OEM one though, the XenonzUK ones can be desperate since every 1.6 tdi has them

Yes I have a new S3 badge on its way to me to replace the RS3 badge. I toyed with the idea of the all black grill but when I swap my alloys over after winter I will be sticking with silver so I wanted to keep the balance. Although blue/black looks good I have done this on a few previous cars with the last one being my old Impreza

Looks lovely. Got a link to the vinyl you used? Think I'll give it a go on my gear surround and grab handles.

Grille looks spot on.
Lovely classic Impreza there too!
