Post by: jaylufc17 on August 30, 2016, 11:05:09 am
I have a MK5 GTI DSG... since i bought it over a year ago everytime i turn the wheel left or right at slow speeds i hear a grnding noise... sounds like its coming from the steering rack...

since ive owned it ive had a full health check and major/dsg service and nothing has come up... is this normal? doesnt sound healthy

1st gen steering racks gave problems so if you have a 2004-2006 GTI that can be the cause.

Early or late? I think you'd have to have a MY2007 car to have the 2nd gen steering rack fitted and early 2007 cars that weren't custom spec'd by the 1st buyer might still be MY2006. Just guessing. I think you can confirm this checking the Steering Assist module with VCDS and see what part number it has.
