A lovely young girl decided it would be a good idea to pull out of stationary traffic giving me no time to react or space to avoid her. I rang the repair centre this morning to be told it's a write off  Not happy and now not looking forward to dealing with the girls insurance company giving low prices for compensation etc. I was trying to find a post I read earlier about someone dealing with the same issue but can't find it. Searched and trawled through the pages but no luck. Anyone with ideas, recommendations of what to do in this situation or a link to the post would be great, thanks. I'll put up a few pics later when I've remembered how to do it. Not much to look at but the quote came in at £6K!!! £3.5k in parts alone :sad1:

The result of a 20mph crash, airbag went off, all seat belts fired, and all the stuff at the front it loose...gutted!

Really sorry to hear it buddy!
I'm so surprised that they classed this as written off.. It looks fine, maybe your AC took a bang but a write off seems extreme. I would pursue whoever declared this as written off because something doesn't smell right :stupid:
-
I agree. That doesnt look bad at all.
From reading your opening post I was expecting to see a crumpled beer can. I'd ask for details of why it was delcared a write off.
-
Ask to buy it back ?
Will be cheap to repair or sell it for parts
My Astra vxr got witten off it was a cat b so I got £6k pay out plus bought it back for £250 and striped it for parts and got around £3k back
Selling the interior , engine , and body parts and brakes etc...
Worth it if you got the time and patience to strip it or put it back on the road ?
-
Yeah it just looks like a new front end. Could easily source panels that are the same colour. Or has there been any engine damage or crash bar been abused?
-
Even so. a new crash by is liek 20quid anyway. as long as the chassis is straight, (which at 20mph I cant see if beinf affected. then it shouldnt be a problem)
-
Had the airbag not gone off then it might have been different. Damage doesnt look too bad
-
Thanks for the replies guys...yeah I was pretty surprised when they came back with the cost to repair but remarked about the cost of airbags, electrics and the like and they said it all mounted up. I should get the proper report in a few days time so might make interesting reading? The pictures do paint a better picture, a whole new front end would be required going down the authorised repair route as everything is broken loose or buckled but looking inside the chassis legs seemed ok, a radiator or two and then all the electrics to do with the airbags and seat belts. I scanned the system before handing it over and quite interested to see noted was the time and speed of the accident which will be useful as I think she's not admitting liability.

Wow buy back for peanuts....how do they come to that figure? Seems ridiculously cheap when a minute ago they'd charge x amount to fix it?? Doesn't make sense.

Do you have a dash cam?
If a warning to others, BUY A DASH CAM as they save you a lot of hassle should the worst happen. :happy2:

Sorry to hear this buddy hope you're okay and no one was injured.
That's minor damage apart from the air bag but it depends on the insurance company and the engineers report. He propably though f it this one's a goner.
Cheap enough repair mind the rear panel may also have damage so needs striping and checking. is personally buy it back and have plenty of cash left over for whatever ypu choose to do with it.
Good luck whatever you decide. :happy2:

I had my girlfriend and one year old in the car so was grateful it wasn't any worse and everyone got out unharmed including the other driver...which is funny as I've just received an "ambulance chaser" letter from her wanting £10k, while in her report says she went to hospital and they didn't recommend any further treatment.
People wonder why their insurance payments are so high!
-
Glad you your girl and baby were unharmed
:slap: b**** :slap: that's just pathetic mate. 10k from a 20mph accident she's asking for a slap.
-
Sorry to hear of your problem... :sad1:
Hopefully your insurance company wipes the floor with her, but usually it comes down to who the biggest liar is...
I had the misfortune of a tw&t in a scrappy old Rover hitting another car, the central reservation then into the back of my car back in 2009... Even though I hit nothing "Mr Rover" pulled out 2 witnesses and I had to carry the can!!! The wheel fell off his Rover and he had the nerve to say I'd recked his car!!! He got £3000 for his car and injuries to himself, pregnant missus and the kid in the rear...
All I had was a scuff on the unpainted rear bumper a slight mark on the painted and a slightly damaged alloy, I didn't claim just did it out my own pocket, my insurance was just up for renewal had the quotes already <£500 as a result of what happened I had to pay just under £2000... :rolleye:
I was with Equity Redstar at the time who even though I sent pics of the damage to my car/investigator looked at it ect they didn't even try to contest it, that's why I pulled the plug on Adrian Flux, fleapit companies you can see why they're so cheap...
First day with my new insurer and some old bloke in his 70s called Maurice with a sheepskin jacket!!! hit the back of me in his new Lexus!!!... I didn't claim the lower bumper was already damaged and his numberplate was just cracked... To be fair he gave me the money for the new lower bumper to be replaced and fitted... :drinking:
Last week some newbie young teen with the old "P" (Prat plus) on her scrapper old KA with more rust than the Titanic nearly took the side off my car by thinking she could go all the way round the roundabout on the outside and take the 3rd exit !!! :scared: Although saying that "Mr Arrogant Cockgobbler" oblivious to any other vehicles did the same days later in his company car BMW but then what you expect!!!

First I was told by the people dealing with the value of the car that I could not buy it back as I did not have a licence to scrap/dispose of cars ,
Then my insurance company said "course you can have it back , will cost you £250 that comes out of the money I'm getting paid for the car "
So said yes please!! And 2 hours later it was back on the drive ?
I'm sure someone made a mistake but I was not arguing

Pleased to hear this.
And so pleased no injury to your baby, partner or self!!
Hopefully something good will come out of all of this. If you get a decent pay out your can hopefully repair the car and add some tasty mods....

I've always had mine installed, newest one is direct wired to fuse box so I don't even have to remember to turn it on but I was advised recently by a guy in the motor industry that dash cams are inadmissible in court as the footage can be altered.

Any recommendations for dash cams? What do you guys use?

Mini 0801. Faultless and discreet over 2 years of use with no hassle.
-
i have a wedge style dash cam - a118 style. about a month old now around 40 quid. (there is a newer style for about 80 i think).hard to see from outside and no problems with it so far. only downside it sticks onto the windscreen with a sticky pad so cannot be removed and re attatched easily, so i leave it in all the time..it looks neat and tidy and comes with plastic trunking to hide cables. would be even more hidden if behind a rear view mirror and i would hard wire it if fitted in my car..

Avoid one with gps as this COULD go against you... eg you were driving a tad over the limit etc.
But I have the Transcend 200 and love it. Nice wide field of view too.
