So i was thinking long and hard about what i wanted next and it was a toss up between 6R/7R/Rocco R.
The 6R i did like and was tempted by the 4WD but suspect 6R will become common place and would be a possible "next car" for most mk5 owners so that sort of ruled it out. the 7R is lovely but a) for the spec i would want was to expensive and b) all the renters/leasers deals would soon be coming to an end and suspect the market will be flooded with them so the Rocco it was.

A57 snake road is a beautiful drive and would recommend it :happy2:
-
Looks great!
Love the front end :happy2:
Please excuse my ignorance but I know virtually nothing about thr scirocco R :ashamed:
Is it not the same engine and running gear as the Mk6 Golf R??

Same engine (CDL) minus 4WD

Good choice, everyone jumps on the 4wd band wagon. I think the rocco is better looking.
-
Looks great and I know it'll go great. I regularly am shotgun for a spin in a rising blue Roc R, they are truly a joy to be attached to for every drive.
Definitely never be common, even though the Mk6 R's are getting pretty sparse :happy2:

Cheers Mate,
Very happy with the choice I've made and yes, the Rocco wins hands down in the looks department.

They are lovely. Took a few on test drives and drove some real battered ones and nice ones. Was quite surprised how solid and planted they are. Still learning the car and the limits but it's always a fun drive

Aha. Thanks for that. Good to know.
Sounds like a great combination  :happy2:

I bought a 6R earlier this Year expecting it to be phenomenal, Good car but I personally think that the FWD Chassis ED30/ED35/Scirocco R is better to drive and more fun.
The 4WD just does everything for you, Put your foot down and don't really have to think about it...DSG would probably make it even worse and even more un-involving to drive. 0-60 and launching a car is something I would never do. I doubt I would ever buy another one.
Anyway, hope the Rocco R serves you well. I drove a friends a few Years back and was impressed
Get some proper pics of the car up, Are you near Sheffield? I live about 15 Mins drive away from the A57 Snake Pass.

Totally agree.
It goes back to a huge discussion we had on Audi sport.net a few years ago. fwd 18t vs s3/haldex
4wd if you want stupid power but fwd for a more fun and involving drive

Furthest i'll go is Hybrid which to be fair, is more than enough power for me.
I think the debate of 4wd vs fwd will rumble on for many more years but a good set up and diff will help loads in terms of putting power down ect and i'm more than happy with my FWD Rocco thus far.

So I picked up one of these.....

Have heard some good and bad feedback about this product but it would seem the Bad feedback is mostly to do with the earlier versions and even some dodgy Chinese copies floating about.
A few people running them on stage 2+ and hybrid had said that there is a noticeable difference in how the boost is held ect compared to the stock DV
The DV+ isn't going on yet as doubt I would notice any difference but they always say every little helps....
-
Yes you read it correctly.
The Rocco is going in for a stage 1 this Sat!!!!
With the Golf, I went from stock to stage 2+ but this time round I thought I'd go through the stages :P
So I wonder what Mr Niki will get out of the Rocco come sat?
:popcornsoda:

Good luck with the map, should be sitting at 300bhp if the rest of the motor is stock. will be fun to drive no doubt lol

Thank you!
A good CDL engine should be around the 310BHP mark, Torque varies. My 6R made 313BHP & 340LB/FT
-
Is it just me, or do these new Scirocco's have a real "fat @rsed" look about them?
For me, it would be back to the future in one of these very Deloreanesque...Mk 1 Storm.
http://www.pistonheads.com/features/ph-features/scirocco-r-vs-scirocco-storm/23641
Tried a new one back in the day, only memory is of the TRULY frightening lack of brakes, apparently due to poor OEM LHD > RHD conversion. Am sure the modders have sorted this by now!

Yes, Used Niki twice now. Once on my old ED30 which made 297BHP & 317LB/FT and then again on my 6R.
I am just on with trying to look at my Rota and arrange a day in October to do a Stage 1 on my current ED30 :)

Brakes are same as S3 / Golf R / R32 and work well (have heard the piston diameter is ever so slightly different but not 100% on that) , haven't had brake fade so no complaints as yet.
Rear end is gorgeous  nice and round  i guess thats what people refer to when they say "real head turner"

might fit it down at R Tech as not had time today been too busy.
but only a few hours left for Niki to work his Magic.
only have REVO to compare his map to so its going to be interesting as although the REVO wasnt as quick as the R Tech mapped cars I did enjoy the aggressive surge of power so hoping i'm not disappointed with this linear approach :ashamed:

I'm sure he will change it to a more aggressive setup if you didn't like linear :happy2:

So i took the trip to R-Tech on Saturday.
I managed to fit the GFB DV+ (pre mapping) so boost would be better held one hoped. :happy2:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fhh598%2Fmvbrands%2FIMG_7104.jpg&hash=d5f82e24c7694a511e3fab288fba9f435596e722)
So Niki got to work and car stock dyno'd at 269/274 which saw me start grinning as quoted out the factory is 265/258.
So the magician got to work and whilst this was going on and I was talking to the R-Tech Lads, my mind was constantly thinking about what power I would make for stage 1 :ashamed:
Was expecting a strong 300-310hp, but the Rocco done me proud. 319/336 :notworthy:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fhh598%2Fmvbrands%2FIMG_7114_1.png&hash=7f3f70b4f7e08b20fb88f4dd2f602956d4195360)
So the drive home was wet and as such, couldn't really push on and see what this R-Tech stage one is all about.
Sunday was itching for a blast so i headed out to some of my "private roads" and got cracking.
The power delivery is smooth, completely different to my REVO map on my GTI, which was very aggressive but this "linear" approach enables you
to get more power down and get on it a lot quicker.
The figures are bloody impressive as its near enough close to my REVO figures on stage 3 with all the supporting mods, but I guess that's the difference between Generic Vs "Niki" custom mapping.
Whilst there i took the liberty of taking a few more pics

nothing really to report only that i went to Shell to fill up on the finest V Power and the cover for the petrol cap refused to release. jumped on this forum and found it was a sort of common problem, but at the time i was thinking i forgot how to open the cover.
Had to hold down the unlock on the key fob and the bloody thing popped open. WTF!!!
Will try some WD40 and hopefully that resolves the issue.
