Cheers bud. Its up for sale with a dealer on Autotrader down my way and I am a bit tempted as my car is seriously getting me down. Over priced though I think. Pretty standard, not a lot of options, 4 dr, 87000m £9450. Obviously not gonna pay that.

Yeah spoke to him yesterday. The car has a stamped book mostly by main dealer but no paperwork and I got my mate who works at VW to check it out on his works computer and he couldnt find any history so the seller is checking it out and coming back to me. I dont understand why when selling a car a dealer wouldn't present a car in a clean state. The engine bay was absolutely minging, the exhaust tips were black and the level for the water was low. Don't understand as if I was asking for nearly 10 grand for a car I would make sure everything stacks up before I let people see it.

That dealer does 'sale or return', so I wouldn't be surprised if they are selling on someone's behalf. It would ring a few alarm bells if it were me, from what you are saying about it.
I'll probably get shot down for this comment, but at nearly 90,000 miles, it is getting on a bit, and you might end up with the same problems that are bugging you about yours. Having said that, there aren't many low milers up for sale, so it's a difficult one, but without any paperwork???
I would keep looking, rather than getting drawn in any more, but of course it's your money...

Come and buy my Pirelli edition mate for 2.5k cheaper with 100k on it and a recent rebuild
That car is way overpriced

I agree. Just driving myself mad at the moment. My cars great now it's had a load of cash spent on it in the last year on many different faults but I sort of resent it and just feel I'm waiting for the next thing to go wrong with it all the time. Bit of my glass is half empty type of bloke

A lot of small independent dealers arrogantly think special editions will sell themselves, so they can whack the price up accordingly and put f'ck all effort into it's presentation for sale. I just find a lot of dealers to be utter pr1cks these days. "Yeah that's the price I'm selling it for, take it or leave it" No barter room like the good old days, like they don't need the business or something.
I saw a black Ed30 on the forecourt of my local VW dealer recently, which was cheaper than this silver one and it was presented immaculately inside and out. It was sold the same day they put it out there! That is the difference a good attitude to your livelihood can make.

I bet they probably use s/hand ebay parts, or GSF rubbish to repair the cars with as well!

Just to update. I was tempted in the end and looked into this car. Apparently the reason why my mate couldn't find the history is because its a German issue. I found this out by messaging VW uk for the build number and they couldn't find it either until I gave them the VIN. Attached is what they sent me. Probably just someone in the armed forces getting it cheaper over in Germany. Quite common.

Would that class it as an import though?

Not sure mate. My Dad and his forces mates used to buy RHD cars whilst posted in Germany, then bring them home afterwards. They used to get an army discount and the cars were German spec.
Maybe in this case it was a German spec car imported over, registered here, then taken back over. It can be hard to trace sometimes.

Hi Craig in answer to your question, my edition 30 is exactly the same. My one is right hand drive with all the usual spec, however it was built for the German market but was initially sold by motor point hence I don't have a unique number either.

Do you think it will affect the price and desirability when selling?

I really don't know mate, bottom line it is an original VW edition 30 in some ways in unique in itself being built for the German market but sold with uk spec.
As for the plaque I spoke to VW and they willing to assign number 2307 to my Edition 30 apparently VW have plaques for that exact reason
