Title: ED30 Down on power
Post by: CChambo on April 18, 2017, 07:27:52 pm
Hi guys,
I'm not sure if I'm going mad or not but recently I feel that my ED30 has been down on power! I had a Revo Stage 1 remap done back in September so I may just be getting used to it, but my dad who's rarely driven it took it out today and he seems to agree with me!
I've checked the DV for splits but it looks in good condition and after testing the PCV that seems good too, is there anything else I should be looking for that could cause an issue like this?

Cheers,
Cam

Haven't disconnected the battery have you? Disconnecting the battery will loose your map
And That would revert the Revo settings to 0,0,0

Cheers for the quick reply! I've not disconnected the battery since I've had the map, it still feels quicker than standard just not quite as pokey as usual.

Cheers

DV can be knackered without any visual clues. Have you ever renewed it?

If not, try a new Rev G and see how you go. It's not an expensive job, and even if nothing changes it's one thing you can tick off the 'suspects list'.

Have a look around the intercooler hoses too. They're not something that holds a good seal forever.

The slippery slope of wanting more power
I'd change the dv for a peace of mind as @AJP (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11926) said, maybe also take the golf back where you got it mapped and ask them to check the settings. Or maybe your just to used to it.

As mentioned the intercooler hoses and turbo hoses should be one of the first things to check after the Dv.

I've not renewed the DV since I've had it, I've got a revision G in at the moment but as you say they're not much so worth a chance for peace of mind.
I'll check the turbo and intercooler hoses tonight

If it only feels down on power in boost (you didn't add any context) and not an abrupt cut in power, definitely boost pipe Bayonets/O rings leaking.

Sorry should have put more context!
The issue is present while on boost, you can feel the initial surge but it's not as aggressive as usual for example (not the best test) but the car will no longer flash the traction control light under hard acceleration in 2nd or 3rd where as it would  usual always cause the wheels to spin! There no cut out or anything just less power than usual.
I'm taking it back to the place where it was remapped on Friday so I'll see what they can find.

If I had to take a punt on a culprit, it'd be a boost leak, like Pudding says.

A sudden loss of power would point to fuel or spark, whereas the car feeling 'weak' in general is usually a sign you're losing a bit of boost.

Hopefully not an expensive fix if it's a loose pipe connection or similar.

I'd recommend getting it scanned for fault codes when you take it in, too.

My vote is also for boost leak.

I'm sure you probably have it all up to date, but basic maintenance like air filter, spark plugs, all worth checking...

Where would be the best place to get the seals for the hoses from? Or would I be better with new complete new hoses?
