So I'm currently running h&r 30mm lowering springs on my edition 30 but have noticed now that all my shocks bar one front one seem to have weakened, car is ten years old. Would you go for standard sachs shocks or upgrade? If upgrade, then what woukd you upgrade to?
I'm assuming it's the shocks at fault as when it was on the ramp.the other day my mate could slightly compress the spring and the shock didn't seem to do much, just heard the fluid moving within the damper on 3/4 shockers
Any input is welcome,
Thanks

I've just fitted VWR springs and new OEM Sachs shocks all round on my 2006 gti. The old rears certainly felt past it as when you compressed them, they didn't have enough strength to return and the car did feel quite bouncy at the back. It feels a lot more planted now but not what I'd call harsh. I guess it all depends on what your budget is and what you want it to feel like, for aftermarket shocks I'd probably be looking at bilstein dampers.

Similar to the above, I fitted VWR springs and the matching VWR dampers to mine over the easter weekend. Likewise, 3 of the 4 original shocks were pretty worn out, but not to the point of the car feeling dangerous to drive.
Mine needs an alignment as I changed to Passat B6 alloy hubs etc at the same time, but my initial impressions are very positive. The kit feels like OEM just dialed up a notch in the corners but no reduction in ride quality.

Hmm, will probably fit the oem sachs ones then and see how i go, cheers lads!

Hi just a question, what did you need to do to fit the Passat B6 alloy hubs? Thanks

You have to swap all the parts over from the GTI hubs - wheel bearings, ABS sensors, cable / hose support brackets, caliper carriers, calipers, struts...... the lot! It's a good time to replace anything that's worn, such as wheel bearings, ball joints, tired CV gaiters, top mounts etc.
The ABS sensors will benefit from a thorough clean up too.
You also need:
Passat 21mm caliper carrier bolts x 4 (longer because the alloy casting is thicker)
Passat 18mm ball joint shouldered nuts x 4 (1 the track rod end, and 1 for lower ball joint. Much bigger diameter to stop the steel inserts pulling through)
Golf/Passat bearing housing bolts x 8 (4 per bearing, they are one time use)
Golf/Passat ball joint nuts x 6 (also one time use apparently)
Golf/Passat strut pinch bolt & nut (one time use)
24mm Main hub bolt x 2 (one time use)
13mm top mount bolts x 6 if replacing the TMs (one time use)
