Title: Rear Brake Disc Shield - remove and replace?
Post by: blueislander80 on May 16, 2017, 01:15:45 pm
Right, so the rear right brake disc shield is rotten, has sheared off and is making a hell of a noise - my local garage is going to hopefully cut it away and get it off tomorrow - not sure if that can be done just with some cutting or if bits and bobs need removing first?

Second question - I can't find anywhere that sells a replacement heat shield for the brakes? I also read it isn't really necessary to have them - is that right? I assume it basically deflects heat and protects from road debris?

You need to actually remove the brakes and wheel hub to remove them... Mine need replacing but I ain't wasting £££ on having it done to be honest...

TPS will have them, I don't think they're needed but might be wrong...

cant remember who but someone on the forum told me to cut them off with tin snips, cutting pieces away at a time, and adventually pulled off due to the rust, annoying noise solved and only replaced due to needing new rear bearing 2 years after.

On the subject and hope op doesn't mind?

Can I get dust shields for the bigger 350mm onward discs?
