Just went out earlier, just about to get into car and Twannggg... a loud band, thought I'd been shot :fighting: :signLOL:
Turns out it was only a spring snapping, so seems like an ideal opportunity to go lower.
What do most fit? (DSG GTI) Don't want stupidly low or hard, been there done that with the MK2 gti.
From what I gather H&R are up there, where's best price for these at the moment?
Roughly how much to get fitted? Can't be arsed rolling about on the drive for half a day...
-
I put h&r on my r32..got them from awesome gti
-
I'll be looking to get VWR springs when funds allow.
Don't lower as much and from what I've read - keeps oem ride quality which is a must for me
-
/\ Much better than OEM ride quality.... with the matching VWR dampers at least.
-
I fitted VWR springs and I'm very happy with the ride / handling balance. :happy2:

With brand new VAG dampers if I remember correctly? Had any front arch rubbing yet? I have a few times! Surprising for -20mm or what ever the drop is.

Correct, no rubbing as far as I'm aware of.

I've had some arch rubbing on mine also.

Not just me then. Good to know. After 1000+ miles on the VWR kit on various road surfaces, I'm coming to the conclusion it's too soft at 7/10ths + driving.

The front springs seem softer than the rear though I will reassess how things feel after some H&R arbs get fitted next month.

That's my feeling too. After fitting the VWR stuff, I noticed the brake pedal lost a bit of initial sharpness, and on some corners, the front leans more than the rear as you've described. Perhaps a deliberate ploy to force us to buy VWR ARBs

Thanks Guys
That's made my mind up then, VWR sound a bit soft so I'll order some H & R and see what they're like.
I notice there's some for sale in the classifieds with differing part numbers, anyone know what the difference is?

Pudding and I both have the vwr spring / damper combination so the outcome could just as easily be down to the dampers as the springs. The rubbing happens when you hit a dip whilst turning sharply however the ride/handling balance is otherwise pretty well judged for normal road use given the reasonable price.
-
I've had the H&R springs for the last 5 years, along with the OEM dampers. Find the ride slightly harsher than standard but the handling is great :happy2:
I'm not sure about part numbers but they are dark blue H&R Sport Springs and got them part of the APS GB on here.
-
H&R only have one part number for GTI, both manual and DSG. You can check my build thread to see it.

Thanks all again, I currently have a shiney new set of H& R springs sat in the car ready to be fitted on Monday.
I shall report back with how I find them.
