Any Sparkies please?
We have 12 volt M16 downlighters in our bathroom (pain), but two of them need new ceramic connectors. I've bought the new ceramic connectors and was planning on just sniping the old ones off and using a small block screw connecting thingy to join the wires.....But, as these halogen bulbs generate quite a bit of heat, I'm bothered that the plastic on the joining connectors might get hot and melt.
Do I need to re-wire them direct to the transformer, or the main connection on the housing instead? Seems a bit awkward to access them, hence my initial thought about using the little block-type wire connectors. Alternatively, I could replace the whole units, but then they wouldn't match the others. These are not above the shower.
Any tips / guidance much appreciated. Don't want any fires
Cheers

Why not replace the bulbs with LED MR16? They burn @1/8-1/10 of the electricity of Halogen and give off correspondingly less heat.

MechE not ElecE!
Dump those old Halogens and move to LED's - Sooo much better light/less energy/less heat etc.
I changed mine and have no regrets at all.
They're not expensive these days either.
