Title: got S3 stage 1 revo today ........
Post by: candy turbo on February 06, 2010, 11:34:10 am
after seeing every one else go the revo route i decided to trial revo before going my tried and tested route of custom code , ive had a few vw and skoda s all custom coded and always been impressed
the drive home in the S3 , the car is noticably smoother and has more punch at 4k rpm and feels faster and is an improvement over oem BUT the power delivery and overal feel is no where near where custom code is !! my ed 30 with CCstage 1 was silky smooth but rapid with it , revo mat be better at higher stages of tune but at stage 1 CC imo is loads better
i thought i might be leaving CC but no chance , now where is JBS s number ........................ :happy2:

You can't really exploit the most of the trial software as I'm pretty sure it has hasn't been set up for max performance.

When i had the trial map installed on my car i was told by the garage its about 70% of the full version so there is more power to be had with the full version. I would not argue with him after having the full trial installed and tinkering using the select plus switch. the perfromance map B6 T2 F9 vs B7 T5 F9 what a difference:grin:

dont get me wrong ben from avp explained that proper install is "slightly "better but the power is there , but the way its delivered is much better with custom code , at inters 08 my ed 30 with CCstage 1 was better than a revo stage 2 and dan paynes CC stage 2 is awesome     the CC stage 1 is also £200 cheaper than revo (if revo had impressed me i would have paid the money but sorry guys it dont !!!!! )

[/quotesuprised me too mate , i thought i would be sold on revo but CUSTOM CODE is way a head , not saying the numbers beat revo by any means but for me the driveability of the CC is miles better( i am comparing this to my ed 30 just hope the CC map does to my S3 what it did to my ed30 , ill know next weekend if i can get it booked in ) the £200 i save can go toward another mod , looking at h&r s  !!!!!!

Take it from one who knows.....

REVO>CC

Same day at Inters I went down the strip four or five times in the morning and couldn't get under a 5.55 to 60 and under 13.95 for the 1/4. Thought I'd give REVO a go and swapped straight to stage 2+ and bob's your uncle I did a 5.16 0-60 and a 13.6 qtr, all without more than 10 mins adaptation of the ECU.

Similarly, on Nobles dyno I made a maximum of 333 bhp on CC and with the same bolt-on's I did a 363bhp with REVO.

Don't misunderstand me though, the CC phase 2+ software is good, but it just isn't as good as REVO.

Bear in mind the S3 and ED30 are two different cars, there will be more transmission losses with the 4 wheel drive system so it might not feel as fast as a ED 30

I wouldnt imagine the power loss from the quattro system vs fwd would be that noticeable to the person driving, must be fractions of a second your talking when in gear accelerating.

i understand what your saying , for those of you that are into your figures revo might give better return or those who have further mods may benefit more from revo software BUT  i dont care about how fast my car goes down the pod or the bhp on the rollers , i m talking real driving and imo at stage 1 CC is better , going to try and book CC for next weekend at midland vw so i get free rolling road so any one interested will know the figures :happy2:

Just waiting for the -

'REVO software is sh1t, took my car to be mapped and they couldn't do it because I'd had a REVO trial'

You're very right to stick to your guns Ian, if you are sure the CC will do what you want then go for it.  I'm a REVO fan myself but it's all a matter of personal choice.

Exactly mate. For a start a Stage 1 S3 is going to be slower than a Stage 1 Ed30 (when moving). But more importantly, comparing a set up, adapted map on a one car, to a trail map on a different car (albeit similar) isn't really a ideal comparison. The trail software that Revo offer IMO is marketed more to persuade people with standard (software) cars to take the plunge. Not to comapre against other fully uploaded software.
If you are a CC nut Ian then by all means stick to your guns. But to say Revo isn't a patch is a comment that is going to get shot to pieces on any VAG forum IMO. Especially on here with members who have switched from CC to Revo (ie John and Tom for a start).
Oh and don't forget that Revo settings can be tailored to provide the delivery you want to suit your driving style and other than that the figures speak for them selves both on track on rollers..

Yes the Revo software is still on the car you are currently just running with stock settings.

If CC know what they are doing then no problems but disconnecting the batery will have no effect.

CC have said the S3 will be slightly less lively than the ed 30 due to the 4wd but hardly noticable , the guy who s doing it says he thinks  CC software in stage 1 is much better on the tfsi engine and he deals with the other side too
i would have thought the revo trial would be the best they can do surly that would make sence , so you would want to buy it ???
also i dont want to tinker with any settings cause i dont have the knowledge to do so
i would say too that the guys who shoot my comments to pieces have revo , i was talking from my experience that out of the box revo is nt a patch on the cc to DRIVE  not figuers or times , real time driving

in defence of the REVO fanboys , if i didnt have APR my next choice would be REVO, and my third wouldnt be CC Im afraid.
BUT if youre happy and it does what you need then fair play  :happy2:

The biggest issue with the Revo trial is that it is designed to cater for people running on standard unleaded.  I found however it was still a massive difference from stock and easily sold the perminent map to me which i found much smoother than the trial map.

i was told was designed for v power ! and only to use v power , which i do any way  :happy2:

No the trial is set to cater for 95ron.  When you buy the full map they get to adjust boost, timing and fuel depending on what you use, the condition of the car etc

The trial map is B6 T2 F9 IIRC The company that installed my trial map told me the trial is around 70% of what the full version is like and i wouldnt argue. When i had the full version installed it was definately smoother and overall better :) I currently run B6 T6 B9, as i run on V Power all the time, i will knock the timing back to T5 when the ambient temps increase.

Comparing the Revo Trial Software to another companies software is an unfair comparison - until you drive an S3 running full version stage one Revo then Drive one running Stage one CC you cannot make a valid comment on which is better, your just making assumptions based on a FREE trial version of a brilliant product.

The REVO software will still be on your car as Ian says and disconnecting the battery will not get rid of it.  It'll need a full flash back to stock before mapping, preferabbly by a REVO dealer as REVO use areas of EEPROM that other tuners don't use.

95 Ron fuel isn't really ideal for any of the TFSi engines, although it can be used in an emergency.

That's one of the problems that I will have when I get my car back. The guy has ran it on 95 ron fuel for the 15 months he's had it..  :sad1:
Will have to give her some proper motion lotion when she's back, switch the map back on and go play..  :driver:
