Hey all,
My brother is looking to buy a Golf GTI this weekend that’s up for sale on piston heads.
It’s a 2007 model in black.
It has a very distinctive whine when pulling off at low speed in first gear.
Is this normal?
Thanks

Doesn’t sound good to be honest, any whine from gearbox is usually a bad sign but I’ve never owned a DSG gearbox so crnt really advise, mine is a manual
But I’d say maybe a bearing problem, which one I wouldn’t be sure! Hopefully some DSG owners will point you in the right direction

Mine does this but don't know how loud you mean. I've heard of other longtime forum members comment on this over the years, I've had mine for 7 years now and done 57000 miles in it and never had any problems as a direct result of the whine.

Do you have a GTI? I'd say if it's significantly louder than yours, it's a problem, but worth finding out if it has uprated engine mounts as they transmit a lot more noise into the cabin.

He sacked that one off. We took a mechanic along with us to view it. Looked liked the gearbox bearings needed changing

Oh dear. Plenty more fish in the sea :happy2:
