Hi guys the mpg on my 06 gti seems to have got really bad lately, only getting around 250 per tank and that’s with my missus driving the kids to and from school so all town driving to be fair but I don’t remember it this bad before? Will a good service help?

A good service will never do no harm under any circumstances :happy2: I’m getting 32mpg at the min not sure exactly how many miles to a tank as I’ve never actually tried it but 250 defo seems low. I would reset the meter take the car yourself for a few days a few good drives under normal as possible driving conditions possibly on 20-30 mile motorway stretches see how the average mpg is working out and go from there. It could be possible the misses just has a heavy right foot as I know mine certainly does :signLOL: she drives harder than me in her 1.5 diesel fiesta st-line :signLOL:

I usually get around 330 miles per tank, although I've just found I've got a sticking rear caliper so once that's sorted I'm hoping I may get more!

Hi. Micky. Ive got a 55 DSG. And I'm getting on average around 210-220 miles off a full tank purely local driving- mixed heavy footed and grandad driving - So I'd say that's normal. If I drove like a grandad all the time then I do touch the 250-260 miles. Lots of stop and starts.
Especially with the weather this cold it also has an affect on fuel consumption. I had all 4 wheels alligned recently which did help the mpg. My average ATM is 18-22mpg.
Waiting till I hit another 2000 miles before I get mine serviced again. Had a full service in July.
I once got 40mpg+ on a trip to Amsterdam and got 410 miles off a full tank. .
What are other people getting ATM. Curious to know :happy2: :happy2:

250 miles for town driving/ school run seems about right. I’ve had 400 miles out of a full tank, but that was in France with zero traffic and clear long runs.

Cheers for the reply’s guys

I used to get over 400 miles/tank...now only get "320miles/tank". I have been replacing everything in the fuel system and am currently down to only the injectors being all that is left to be replaced. I suspect one or more of them are leaking slightly...but I need to get them replaced before I can pressure test them. All along I get some "stuttering/mild jerking" when I get on the throttle lightly after having just let off...and it runs just a bit rich per lambda data.

Don't know about a tank, but can get 42 on a long run........if I'm really light footed, but often in the teens around town, even then with a light foot. I don't usually give it ant welly these days, so a bit of a waste on me really.

250 for me mainly city driving and bumper to bumper traffic on Tesco momentum fuel

Sorry for the ‘thread from the dead’ revival! Thought this may be useful info for future searches. I was averaging 250 Miles to a tank of petrol notmally. I changed my thermostat as temps would not stay at 90 on motorway driving.
Boom! 330 miles out of a tank. That’s 80 miles I just wasn’t getting before. If your mpg seems low and your temps dip below 90 for ANY reason, this may well be your culprit.
A very happy Mk5 owner :jumpmove:

I normally see 330 miles to empty after a fill up, but that can extend to 350, 360, 370 miles depending on how slowly I drive it. Give it any kind of beans though, and it drops right back down again

350 miles, but i would say a lot more in the tank, i just dont like running it too low, but i reckon 400 miles, i dont really do town driving too often, mainly A and B roads, i do blast it now and again, but drive relatively normal!!
car is an 06 DSG standard
