What’s people’s views on oil extractors? Anyone use them?
Thinking about getting one just to save time and use for oil change at every 5k and between services
-
They only extract about 3/4 of the oil, if that. Not worth it.
I know it's a faff jacking the car up, pulling the belly tray and all that, but at least you know it's been done thoroughly.
-
Not worth it on the mk5 as you have to get underneath anyway to get to the oil filter.

Speaking of oil, it's worth sticking a magnetic sump plug in. I get a nice coating of iron dust on mine every time I change the oil. That normally sticks to the cam and crank sensor magnets which corrupts the signals if it builds up enough, so well worth minimising that wee problem.

PELA 6000 used every 10000 miles with no issues (that I could see) Car is still going strong. Obviously not going to recommend it as I never did get more than 4 litres of oil out

I have one. Used on my MK4 for years. Gets all the oil out, you just have to move the hose further at the end. Not used it on the mk5 yet.

Used a Pela on my old VR6, MK4 R32 and Edition 30. Always leaves at least a litre in the sump regardless of marque in my experience. The last time I used it on the ED30, it only pulled 3.5 litres out, despite shoving the hose in further and constant pumping.
I would rather dump the sump and then I know ALL of it is evacuated and not a litre left in there to contaminate the fresh oil.

I use one for my boat because it is a necessity. Really can't see the point of using it on the Golf so never have and never will.
