Loads of tyre posts recently I know but im looking for feedback on the new michelins.
I had that horrible realisation that my rear tyres have less than 500 miles left on them yesterday. There was me thinking tyres wouldnt be an issue until after the summer
Anyway, I have vredestein sessantas and F1 assymetrics on at the moment and it will be the F1's which will be replaced.
I've been really impressed with both tyres but they both seem to have worn out really quickly and im told that the PS3's are just as good but last a lot longer? I also like the idea of trying something new
Anyway, best prices I've found today fitted are;
Vreds £200
F1's £230
PS3's £268
I cant say i noticed any difference between the vreds and F1's except that the f1's rim protector was far better and i think the vred are wearing out quicker. For £30 I'm thinking play safe with F1's but just another £38 and maybe the PS3's could be the best tyres yet?
Thoughts please :happy2:

PS3 only came out in January so it's unlikely many people have any real experience of them.
The dealers I've spoken to suggest they are an improvement over the PS2.
I'll be giving them a go in the Summer.
-
Have the PS2's come down in price since the PS3's have been introduced? They could represent a good buy.
-
ps 3 are brand new, bit of an uknown but going on the performance of the PS2 Im pretty excited that theyll be amazing :happy2:
-
I got PS2's the other week £140 a corner
-
Cheers guys, i thought as much. I don't know what to do, can get vreds £192 fitted now. Performance wise, browsing loads of forums there seems to be nothing between any of the tyres so im now thinking, save my money and get the vreds. I was thinking earlier, they are also superb in the snow which has been a real bonus considering how poor other tyres i"ve had have been. And i know it shouldn't be important but they look way cooler than the others :happy2:

I've been running the PS3's on the front of my MK5 GTI (18") for a couple of weeks now. I previously had the PS2's fitted.
The PS3's are a BIG improvement. The wet weather grip is incredible. Due to the weather, I have been unable to fully test the dry capabilities.
I paid £142 a corner for the PS3's, which strangely was the same as the price they were doing on the PS2's!
Btw, I am new here as i've been over on the 'other' forum.

How big is the rim protector on them?

thanks for the update jay :happy2:
sounds like itll be ps3's for me next time round

[/quote]
The rim protector is quite good and would offer SOME protection against kerbing, certainly better than a normal tyre. If for example you were to brush against a kerb whilst parking, it would probably save you from damage.
However, if you were to park like a c*nt then it won't help you much.
Needless to say, I stay well away from any kerbs if at all possible!

That's good to know cheers. The Vreds i have now wouldn't give me much protection from curbs but the F1's have a massive protector which is very useful, especially when the missus has a drive :happy2:

Costco have a deal on at the moment, by invitation only until 14th Feb (still trying to get in on it) 20% off purchase of 2 tyres (normally they do 20% off purchase of 4 tyres) £118 per tyre fitted
I was quoted same price for PS3's as PS2's for the Audi (but they had to order them in) some talk but not confirmed as yet that the 20% off 4 tyres may start after the 15th Feb
-
I think it depends on the Costco store, the one in Bristol would not order them in, they have a massive surplus of PS2 to use up.

I was planning on paying them a visit this weekend, would they budge on price condiering they have got so many PS2's in stock?
-
This may be of assistance on those with experience of PS2s. Not massively different in milage but wet weather performance is much better apparently.

Nope, they wont budge on price either.
ProTyre has the PS3 in stock for a near identical price

I love the vredesteins aswell.
I must admit my front are have worn already, but i havent exactly been driving like Miss daisy since getting Stage 1 Bluefin TBH.
The way i look at it, if they were out faster on a asym tread pattern, then the Compound must be quite soft and give better traction then say a longer lasting harder compound tyre.
I love the grip, and my traction control system doesnt kick in as much as it used to with the Dunlop Sportmax's.
I think as you say , the side wall tread design is good, and looks very sweet in comparrison to the Ps2/3's.
Im keeping to Vred's next time out.

Ok guys & girls just ordered four new tyres :surprised: (235X40X18) PS3's for the A4 £141each (£565) all fitted (thats with the 20% discount) same price as PS2's. (23k out of the old PS2 :rolleye:)
-
I've just ordered a set too for my new alloys, they're getting fitted tomorrow, although I paid a bit more, well I will in 30 days when the account is due anyway! :happy2:
-
Got mine fitted an hour ago, too early to give feedback cos I had to drive through wet rush hour traffic but will update when I've had chance to see what the sticky fellas are like!...

As I mentioned yesterday got them on, got the car washed this morning and have had a bit of a drive about.
First impressions are very good, the grip in the wet seems excellent although I haven't pressed on yet.
One thing that has surprised me is that I went up an inch from the standard 17's to the 18" Detroits in the above pic, the ride quality actually improved quite a lot, and this can only be down to the tyres. Well impressed! :)

actually i have 225/45-17 wintertyres on goodyear wintersomething, and when i tried my new summer tires 225/35-19 the ride quality improved, it felt like the suspension were able to do all the suspension and the wobble/hopping from the tires dissapered.
the ride really improved

Nice tyres and rims - need to drop the car a bit.

my brother has being running ps3's on his r26 (previously had ps2 and finds these a lot better and the sidewalls arent to stiff) and they are especially good in the wet. Only trouble is they do seem very soft and look to be wearing fast.
-
Interesting to hear the comment about the tyre being soft, driving style is a subjective thing but how many miles has your brother done ?
-
around 1500-2000 i would say, when i say soft i would say on par with eagle f1 gsd3's for example. The car does get driven hard though and its remapped so i guess that will add to the tyre wear.
-
That's interesting, I was led to beleive the eagle F1 Asymmetric were significantly softer, hence the general mileage benefits from runinng Michelins.
-
Well first spirited drive today and all I can say is wow! The wet weather grip is fantastic, big improvement in cornering speeds and very progressive when they finally hinted at sliding!
Very impressed how the traction control intervenes much later too as I often switched it off
completely before the tyre and wheel swap!
-
so what do people think they will get mileage wise from these and also the verdis, my pirellis are coming upto 19k and will need changing soon, although I don't consider 19k to be too bad :)

I just rang up Costco to see what the price for the PS3s were and the guy quoted me £140 each and said they are cheaper than the PS2. He also mentioned they had stock of the PS2 they wanted to get rid of first. Anyone know if the 20% costco offer is still on.
How are the guys that have the PS3s finding them, I have F1s asymmetrics on the front and was going to put them same on the back but everywhere I ring dont seem to be able to get them anymore.
-
Sorry guys to bring this topic back up, but I need to get some tyres in the next few days and as it looks like I cant get the Eagle F1s anymore, need some advice...

Thanks Eccie, oh well missed that one then! Think im gona give the PS3s a go

I have just changed from Bridgestone Potenzas to Michelin PS3s. I swapped one pair last month and the other pair yesterday. I paid £300 for 2 x 225-40-zr18s fitted + balanced from Protyre in Portsmouth. Once I have had time to try them I'll post again.
Also, Michelin have an offer on all of their tyres until 30th November. If you buy 4 in one go at one of the garages listed on their site, they give you £40 of fuel vouchers. Unfortunately I don't qualify as the garage I bought mine is not on the list and I bought the other pair seperately. For those interested the link is here:
