Title: On the hunt for a MK5 GTI
Post by: peter_booker2003 on April 30, 2018, 05:43:24 pm
As above.

Looking for a well looked after one please. Budget is up to £4k.

Not too bothered on spec but needs to be 3dr and needs to have had cambelt/water pump done and ideally Cam follower, DV done etc.

Thanks
Pete

I’ve just bought one and the DV definitely needed doing, car felt flat, no boost. I know what 150bhp felt like, and it felt like that!  Took it off and it was completely shredded the whole way around.

Just to advise, it wasn’t a difficult job. Took me around an hour, so if you’re handy with a spanner don’t be afraid to give it a go.

I think unless you do buy from someone in the know, in all likelihood it will be knackered. Scary how many Mk5’s must be currently driving around making about 50bhp less with totally unaware drivers!

Anyway, I now need to get the cam follower done...

I just bought a mk5 gti last week. Can you give me some info on what the DV is? Going off the paperwork on mine I don’t think it’s been done and there is 90k on the clock. Would it need doing? I’m not at all handy with a spanner so would it be expensive? The main thermostat has gone on mine so that’s the first job on the list..

I have a GFB DV+ on mine, made a huge amount of difference car felt completly different after i did it as the old one was mashed.

I cant recommend it enough the whole thing including the piston is metal so wont fall to bits like the rubber and plastic ones.

you can pick them up for under £100 and take 30 min to put in all you need to do is take your front driver side wheel off take of the front part of the plastic arch liner and you can get to it easy.

It also comes with full instructions and a nice little sticker haha.

+1 on the DV+, makes the car more responsive.
