Title: Highline comp
Post by: Truckie on February 11, 2010, 02:48:29 pm
I currently have the pikey midline comp in my edition 30. Can anyone tell me how much roughly to change to the highline, also is it an easy task, how much do you have to change?

Cheers, craig.

I remember one of the other forumites got this done. The highline itself wasn't much but the labour killed it - to have things like mileage etc transferred over, you need to have it done by VW themselves. Or so I'm lead to believe.

I had highline installed.

the unit cost a lot the labour was half an hours. its so quick and easy for a good VW mech to do.

My car was that new that i couldnt put an older unit into my car without using VW.

i believe shark performance now have the gear to be able to do this

Thought it was you! But wasn't sure whether it was the labour or the unit that was expensive.

i bought a brand new unit from VW. i spent £470 quid on it, but i did it in a way whereas if it was the wrong unit, VW were liable for ordering the wrong part.

at the time, 1 year ago, it wasnt well documented about which units work and which dont!

Also recently had it fitted as well. Total cost £340.00.

A lot of money for what it is, but like others on here, I wanted it, so I did it.

As JPC said the problem is with the immobilsers and transfer of the mileage etc from one cluster to the other. You need the SKC (secret key code) to be able to do this. Darren has VAG Commander, which can read this code, but only upto (I believe 2006 model years). After that date, VAG changed the details on the clusters and after market software can't read the newer clusters, only the dealers (on in my case an independent) with the VAS tablet.

Cheers

Andrew

As above Ben at Sharkperformance has the correct equipment to read all the clusters including the newer ones (VAG Commander)

Hi guys,

I'm going to 'up' this topic and I have the following question:

I recently bought a VAG K+CAN COMMANDER cable from a online Dutch marketplace (I live in The Netherlands) and I hope to receive it asap.
I have a 2005 EU VW Golf V GTI with a midline cluster.
A friend has a 2006 EU VW Golf V GTI with a higline cluster.
He want's to buy a R32 higline cluster and place it in his mkv.
If that works, I want to place his 'old' highline cluster in my mkv.
I also have a full working vagcom/vcds 10.6 cable and software if needed.

Is there anyone with VAG-COMMANDER and swapping cluster (coding the correct codes/miles/etc.) experience?
What highline and R32 clusters to look for?
Do I also need a new stalk to control the new higline cluster?

I hope I bought the correct vag commander cable/software.
Is it true that it should work with <2007 mkv's?

And how do I control my highline cluster because now I control my original midline cluster with the right stalk and I have a mfsw with a different button layout (2005), so no menu option control on my mfsw (I have a source button for headunit instead of the ones with the star and menu buttons).

This is the cable/model I bought:

It should be a breeze now mate, you've got Darren to guide yoy through the procedure of SKC retrieval and mileage transfer.
