Nice to see VW haven't phased out 3 door GTIs just yet

Not feeling the decals on the side but otherwise an interesting package!

Lol...

If you had the new TCR on your drive I doubt you’d be keeping the old rust bucket

TCR looks lovely BTW

Only thing that will make me get rid of the MK5 is a MK1...period

The mk5 still looks better, mk7 has to many angles for my liking

Concept drawing.....wheels fill the arches, minimal gap.
Photo's of car......tractor like gaps, wheels tucked in.
The stickers are a bit Halfords too.
Nice seats though.

Looks so dated if you compare both models.  Come on be realistic now we all love the mk5 but it can not compare

Mk7 may be better built, but its not much of a looker.  End of story

Not sure the TCR is much different to a Clubsport and seems to be a run out special to keep some interest in the model pending the arrival of the Mk8 next year. In my eyes, the mk5 carries its age well and could well be the pick of the various generations of GTi.

They would need to do something to keep interest because if this is what the mk8 gti will look like, it’s one ugly piece of kit I think  :signLOL: https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/volkswagen/golf/92374/new-mk8-vw-golf-gti-shapes-up-pictures

Nice to see all the models, MK7 certainly looks more aggressive.
MK5 still looks good after all these years and a set of Xenons gives an even better look.

Jebus. The rear of the MK8 looks like the wife's Tiguan.

The MK5 was a leap in design IMO from the mk3/4. The MK6 was hideous. The MK7 looks nicer than the MK8.

I’m not sure why people are getting excited about a 3 year old magazine article with an artist’s impression of what the mk8 could look like.

The mk7 is growing on me slowly. As for the mk5 looking dated, my shagged Base gti  is certainly looking it's age but I saw a very well maintained edition with xenons that still looked sharp!

I agree with that.  I will concede the regular GTI with black plastic sills and lower half bumpers are starting to look a little old, but fully coded ED30s/R32s etc still look very nice even today, imo.

If you look over a MK7 carefully, you will see very little has changed mechanically over the MK5, pretty much just the engine.  Obviously the MK5's recipe is hard to improve on.  Noticeable cost cutting in the MK7 too.  Plastic sump   Pressed steel subframes   Monroe dampers.  Cheap crap.  All of the suspension bushes look identical to the MK5s on first glance.

The Gen3 EA888 is an absolute cracker of an engine though, and bolts right into a MK5

The MK7's exterior is very generic.  It looks like a member of a massive inbred family.  The love child of Uncle Tiguan and cousin Audi A3.

I would describe the MK5 as retro rather than dated.
