Title: Would I get battery drain fitting an RNS315 to an 05 GTI?
Post by: probedb on September 17, 2019, 09:10:18 pm
Trying to decide whether I need to swap out the CANBUS module first.

Not heard about this specifically on an RNS 315.

Cheers!

Yes I think it will.

I fit an RNS315 into my MY06 GTI and changed the can bus module at the same time.

Have since moved on to an RCD330G but would recommend a new (post rev L) module is installed if installing any new stereo.

See the following for RNS510. I believe all the same advice applies to the RNS315.

Many thanks, I thought so and have a newer CANBUS, its just proving a pain in the backside to get the old module out for lack of access under the dash and above the pedals. May end up just asking the garage to do it and then I can do everything else.

RNS510s can have an internal software tweak done to solve the battery drain issue.  Maybe the RNS315 can as well.

By far the easiest way to access the gateway is via the scuttle area under the wipers.  There is a removable plastic panel just above it.  The wiper mech needs to come out but it's not as bad as it sounds.  If you go down that route, be sure to make a note of the current gateway's configuration before installing the new one......otherwise some things won't work if they're not programmed back into the new one!
