Title: Going to Stage 1
Post by: JBOOG on October 29, 2019, 11:51:26 am
Hi, have just joined the mk5 club with a 2005 gti 111000 miles.  Could someone suggest any maintenance checks I should have done before going to rtech for stage 1.

Also are there any suggested modifications that are recommended before tune. I see exhaust and induction kit are suggested elsewhere. Neither seem to make a massive difference? And am confused about the different types of both.
Thanks

Probably best to just try the Stage 1 tune first and see if you like it.  That's enough for a lot of people.  You can do exhausts and intakes afterwards but they yield relatively little extra gains compared to what the tune gives.

As for pre-map maintenance, cam follower, fresh oil, scan and fix any fault codes, replace DV and PCV etc, check boost pipes aren't leaking etc.  The usual stuff.

Defo can follower check. If it deteriorates can be a pricey fix. Not too expensive a job

I'd also advise taking your car to a German car specialist rather than VW garage.
I got great advice plus at least one of mechanics will probably have owned a GTI at some point
